Jambiani is my favourite place on Zanzibar. It's on the East Coast a couple of miles south from Paje. The tide goes out a long way here so you can't swim all the time. When the tide is out, the local women harvest their sea-weed. They carry it back home and dry it. Then they take it to be weighed and get paid. It's shipped out to Manilla for the chemical industry. It's great that the women can earn their own money here. The men go out fishing in their ngalawa (dugout outrigger boats) both outside and inside the coral reef.
