1/26/12 Yesterday and today were a return to ship life, and today was really sunny and warm! You have to love the beautiful warm Caribbean. Last night I ran into a group of people I didn't know who were really bored and wanted to watch a movie so I showed them the ones on my computer. We picked out The Graduate because I had never seen it, and we found an empty classroom and watched it on my computer with the Jambox speakers. It was lot of fun and a good way to meet new people. Things are starting to set into place and get rolling with classes, which is good. I’ve just been doing reading homework, going to class, eating and sleeping. We reach the Amazon on Saturday and then travel up it for several ... read more

1/23/12 I am currently 4 hours ahead of California and 3 hours ahead of Colorado. Since the Bahamas we have traveled 785 nautical miles. Waking up today there was much excitement throughout the ship to get off for the first time, at the first port and explore. I packed my towel, snorkel, mask, and underwater camera in my backpack. I grabbed a hat, my money belt and camera, put on some sunscreen and headed up stairs to meet up with Anna Sophia for breakfast and then to go exploring in Roseau. Where we were ported was beautiful! The view off the back deck of the ship was a steep green mountainside with all different colored houses and a steep road built into it. At the very top right hand side of this mountain was some sort ... read more

1/20/12 Well first thing that happened today, neither my alarm nor my roommate’s went off this morning so we did not wake up for breakfast and only woke up because the voice over the speakers gave the announcements of the day and mentioned that the first meeting would be starting in ten minutes, oops! First things first, we are still in port and they updated us on the missing passengers with visa problems. We were told that they would be boarding today, but not until later in the evening. Everyone seemed very disappointed because we were all very ready to get going and start our exciting adventure. Everyone was also worried that this meant we would be arriving late in our first port, Dominica, and therefore change the dates of the entire trip. There was another ... read more

Title: Boarding and First Day on the Ship Date: 1/20/12 Location: Nassau, Bahamas 1/19/12 First day on the ship!! Got up this morning early, ate a quick breakfast and got Starbucks, made sure everything was in my duffels, checked my email one last time, and got in a cab with other SAS students and parents to go to the ship. I felt very excited and ready to get going as we drove through the morning island traffic to the port. Upon arrival I got in a line and was given a nametag and paperwork to start filling out. I started to feel a little nervous and anxious as I was overwhelmed with the feeling that there was a lot to do. It hit me that this was actually happening and I could see all the students ... read more

1/16/12 Made it to the Bahamas with Mom and Dad two days ago. Travel seemed long, as I had not slept the night before and spent a good portion of the night and morning of travel crying after the last video chat with good friends. Arrival in the Bahamas was smooth and easy. The air was certainly warmer than Colorado, but not as warm as you might think, it is their off season for tourists and is a little cooler then the scorching summers. The taxi driver was a nice local with multiple colored ties hanging from his rear view mirror that swayed as he drove around the roundabouts on the left side of the road and right side of the car. Bahamas used to be under British rule. The Sheraton resort looked very nice as ... read more
