Good morning, Finally a Bolivia update, I apologize for the delay. I went to Bolivia at the end of October, for about two weeks, to visit B. and to see the Salt Flats at Uyuni. Because it has been a while, and my memories are not as fresh anymore (and because it is late, and I'm tired), the update will be short. Arriving in La Paz was amazing- like in Peru I had the feeling to finally be arriving in South America. Filled with colors and dirt, honking cars everywhere, I got very excited to see more of this country. Seing B. again was great! I got to go to his work and meet all of his little friends, and later I got to meet his host family. I spent a few days exploring La Paz, ... read more

Another quick travel-update; this time around: Peru. The few rainforest and Cusco-pictures I took, don't do it any justice at all and so I left them out. I have, however, uploaded quite a few Machu Picchu pictures. Hope, you enjoy them! Early morning, December 7th, I started my short journey to Peru. I took a plane from Santiago to Lima, and after a bad start and some problems I finally made it to Cusco by bus. Cusco is a beautiful city, and I immediately felt at home, especially because I didn't have a very good first impression of Lima. In Cusco I stayed at the Loki backpackers, only for one night though, and then started my trip to the Machu Picchu the next morning. Machu Picchu I had booked a tour through my hostel, and so ... read more

An amazing week in San Pedro de Atacama, North of Chile. Hello hello, It's about time for an update, I guess! (Apologies.) 3 weeks ago I had a week off university and I decided to go and spend the week in San Pedro de Atacama, a cute little town in the Atacama desert, North of Chile. After a 24-hour bus ride I found myself a hostel and started to explore the pueblo. First thing I realized was that I should have bought all my food in Santiago instead of buying everything in San Pedro because there I paid about 4 times the price for pretty much everything. Well, next time! I found the cheapest travel agency in San Pedro and booked the four major tours around San Pedro for 45.000. The very same day in the ... read more

Yeco A few weeks ago my house mates and I spent a great weekend in Yeco, a small pueblo about two hours from Santiago. My landlord’s grandma owns a small wooden cottage there, near the ocean. It was a very relaxing weekend; we spent hours climbing around on the cliffs and drinking beer on the beach, watching the waves. The first night we went into the forest to a nice spot on the cliffs where we made a fire and played guitar all night long. As it got darker and darker, most people started to walk back to the house until it was only four of us left by the fire. Finally me and one of my house mates decided to go back as well, and since I have absolutely no sense of orientation, I left ... read more

Hey folks, life at my new apartment is good, even though I feel a bit disconnected, mainly because of my Spanish skill (or the lack of it). Other than that, I've started to explore the area around my house a bit and quite a lot of Bellavista, which I adore. I went to a vineyard last week, Concha y Toro, the largest producer of wine from Latin America. Very beautiful landscapes and it was interesting to learn about (and taste) their wine and the history behind Concho y Torro. In 1963 they started creating different, and much more evolved types of Cabernet, including the now famous Casillero del Diablo. The tour was well done, we had a nice tour guide who told us many interesting stories and showed us around the winery. The tour ended with ... read more

A short update on my life: The Spanish course is done and University will start this Thursday. I’ll be moving into my new home later today, although I’m still a bit sick. I’ve been sick the whole weekend and unfortunately I’ve missed out on some great hiking trails, but I’m sure I will catch up soon! Last week we drove into the mountains, and a few hours and a comfortable trunk-ride later, we arrived at a beautiful spot somewhere close to Santiago. We only had a few hours, and our Spanish teacher isn’t much of a hiker, but we did get a glimpse of what it might be like to go hiking in the Santiago mountains. I thought it was absolutely beautiful and I plan on going back there soon! Some pictures attached. We also went ... read more

I arrived in Santiago two weeks ago, and I’ve finally found some time to write down a few notes. I only added pictures of Valparaíso and Viña del Mar for now; I'll upload Santiago later. Santiago I haven’t seen much of Santiago, but so far I like it a lot. Santiago is huge and definitely not a beauty, but it has it’s own flair! It’s a bit dodgy and crowded, and apparently you’re supposed to watch your bag everywhere you go. There are markets everywhere, fresh fruits & veggies, millions of homeless dogs, crazy taxi-drivers and very friendly Chileans. I will share some more first and second impressions once I actually start exploring the city a bit more. So far, I’ve mainly been busy with studying Spanish and making new friends. About the „Spanish“: Chilean sounds ... read more
