These are some of the photos Liam took when we went to Orkney - we couldn't take any 'cause our camera's broke...Probably about the worst weather I've ever had while on holiday (or ever for that matter), between Ferry cancellations the day before we sailed, road closures due to snow, not to mention break-downs that weren't, we were lucky we had Bertha to get us there! We went down to the borders to pick up our new car! We were really lucky and had brilliant weather, but cold. Jedburgh has a really big Abbey that was built by King David in the 1100's to show England how tough Scotland was. Then the English trashed it. About three times. [View Full Entry]

They kick off Hogmanay in Edinburgh with a big torchlight parade - about 12,000 people with torches wander from the royal mile down the mound, along princes st., up calton hill and set fire to a viking longboat! We managed to make it all the way without setting fire to anyone. [View Full Entry]

The New Lanark Cotton Mill was built in the late 18th Century, Robert Owen took over and greatly improved the lives of the workers through education, reducing working hours, and providing better accomodation and food...I'd still rather not work in a cotton mill though. Here are more details: http://www.newlanark.org/ We caught the train out early on Saturday 1st December morning ( the 1st day of Winter) and arrived back home late that night.
