While searching randomly on the internet the other day i came across a site that i think might help people travelling around NZ in a camper van parkyourcamper.com is an awesome idea some people in NZ have come up with. It has a map showing locations of free overnight parking anywhere in NZ. I cannot explain how much this site would have helped us when we were travelling around. You can view all, so you see all the spaces, or search for an area and it brings up any space within about 30miles of the town or city you'll be in that night. some areas also have alternative activities to what you might otherwise know about. My favourite thing about the site is it is user generated. if you find a space to park in an ... read more

Leaving Bali...I decided to take a bus instead of flying to Java because i hadn't seen much of the North West and thought a nice bus journey would allow me to take in some of the views. This was the case to some extent...however the 20 hour bus journey overall was an absolute nightmare...the seats are made for midgets, i was sat right at the front behind the driver who seemed to think the horn was more important than the steering wheel...and at 4am the beeping of a horn every 10 seconds is slightly annoying to say the least! But apparently it’s necessary to warn the vehicle in front (mainly bikes) that a bus is overtaking! When we got on the boat...it was nice to have a little peace and quiet! I think i was nearly ... read more

So...Bali...the "island of Gods” This description definitely describes certain parts of Bali...which are full of ancient ruins, beautiful temples and awe. However, the island, which is still suffering from the effects of the Bali bombings a few years ago, is completely focused on the tourist industry. Which makes certain areas a little too commercial, especially around Kuta, where you can't walk more than two yards without being grabbed or shouted at for requests of "you want transport?" Or "massage mate?" The smells emanating from the streets of Kuta are a mixture of exhaust fumes, incense sticks and drains! The nights differ slightly in Kuta...when most of the bars are filled white European males on "business!" waving their cash about in the hope that some young Indonesian girl will be persuaded to have a drink and maybe ... read more

We landed in Sydney and headed straight to our hostel. The first evening we spent wandering around the vicinity of the hostel and enjoying some glorious Thai snap at a lovely little place called Spice I am next door. The next morning Jake and Craig headed off in their own direction and decided to explore Sydney at their own pace. The next few days Jake stayed in Kings cross...a charming area of Sydney most famous for drugs and vice! Allegedly...one in five people walking around Kings Cross are undercover police officers...yes it is that bad! But this also makes it one of the safest areas of Sydney! Jake met Lucy and Richard in Sydney and spent a couple of days and nights with them. They went to the Blue Mountains on the first day...it rained for ... read more

A great site to visit if you are travelling around NZ in a camper van is www.parkyourcamper.com Right then...here we go again... We arrived in Picton and headed straight for Nelson. We dropped off Pam, a girl we went out with on the friday night and ran into again on the ferry and looked for somewhere to stay for the night. We stopped for some supplies at woolworths (a supermarket in NZ) and when we left ran into the two dutch girls, again. By now we had got to know them a bit so invited them to join us at our parking spot. We spent the night playing ridiculous card games and then said goodbye to them as they headed south. We also left Daniel here who met up Rachel for the rest of his ... read more

A great site to visit if you are travelling around NZ in a camper van is www.parkyourcamper.com We have pictures for this, but on Daniel's camera. He will put them on soon. Read on if you can be arsed, its a long un Hello to everyone. We decided just to do one big entry for New Zealend, although now as we come to write it we are regretting it. It is over five weeks since we landed in Auckland and some things we did seem like a lifetime ago. Anyway, here goes... The trip from Santiago to Auckland was a bit of a nightmare. We were offered some cash and a hotel for the night as the flight was overbooked, but as all three of us had already left south america in our heads, we ... read more

Our trip back to Londrina started with a flight from Santiago Airport. After a check in that was like being in the auditions for Takeshi's Castle, we borded and arrived in Sao Paulo ready to catch a bus at 10.45pm to Londrina. After another nightmare trip, including thin seats and NO sleep we arrived at 6am to be met by Carla and Aline. After a well earned sleep we awoke to a full house. After introductions to aunt's, uncles, cousins, grandparents and anyone else that appeared, we had a bbq and waited for the new year to come. Once this had passed and we had watched the many fireworks in the city we headed out to a club. Despite not singing Auld Lang Syne we were in good spirits and the night out was very enjoyable. ... read more

Well...the 26 hour bus ride was rubbish. Despite being the same company we had comfortably travelled for 90 minutes from San Pedro to Calama with, the bus was not half the standard it was previously, and we managed to get the two seats directly outside the toilet, which as you can imagine can get a little funky after 26 hours. The location did set up what made us laugh for hours though. Although Craig is used to women falling at his feet (stop laughing), it is not usually when a bus goes over a speed bump and she comes flying out of the bathroom. This time it was. We planned to head to Valparaiso, 90 minutes northwest of Santiago where we had originally planned to spend new year. Unfortunatly we couldn´t find a hostel there so ... read more

After leaving Danny in Uyuni we (Craig and Jake) set off back to San Pedro de Atacama. Although we spent three days on the road on the way out the return journey would take us less than one day. We took a more direct route back too and after a brief stop over (arrived at 8, up at 3.30am!) in the middle of nowhere, we headed for the border and back into Chile. Despite the little time we spent at our stopover we still had time to talk to a French couple, one of whom had literally run away to join the circus! We planned to get a bus that evening to Iquique, but had to settle for a shorter trip to nearby Calama and a connection the next morning. Despite being the centre of a ... read more
