Cycling East Java Hello,
My partner and I have booked a last minute trip to Suramaya with our bikes 2-18 may. We don't know much about Java and was wondering if you might have any suggestions. I definitely would love to visit one of the volcanoes.
The largest sundial of the world is located in Zaragoza (Spain) Although the Jaipur astronomical compound is probably the best, most attractive and a very old site, the largest sundial of the world is located at Zaragoza (Spain) and it even holds the corresponding Guinness World Record for the largest Sundial.
What an inspiring trip! Well done for following your nose and ending up (almost) on top of the world! I visited Ladakh in 1994 and have ever since been looking forward to getting the chance to go back there. Incredible landscape and beautiful people. Cycling to the top of the Khardung La is very impressive.
Hope you're still living the dream!
Insping your indomitable travel adventure spirit to cycle to the highest motorable road\pass it was very inspiring to read about your six hour cycling experience to climb 50 kms.steep road so as to reach the highest motorable road\pass (5602mt.) Once in a week I jog to climb a hillock of some 40mts.over a distance of 350mts and doing it 6 times is my hill training for my preparation for running half a marathon. Good Wishes for your travel spirit to take you to longer and wider places.
Tough climb !!! Remember this place (if i'm not wrong) :)
Steep climb to Tanglang-La starts from here ( i think about 6Kms to top) and head on winds add to difficulty.
Congrats you did it on bike and not on rescue vehicle like me :) ( http://vishalguleria.blogspot.com/2009/06/cycling-leh-manali.html ).
Great Stemina Guys !!!
My dream Thanks for giving vivid information on Kailas. It was my dream to travel there from Mumbai, India.Alas I could not as I am too old ! Only consolation was my travel to Ladakh in 2007 where in certain portion the topography and wild life is same as in Tibet. Regards and best wishes, BHARAT KADGE
Inspired What amazing pictures, especially the one of Erika cycling with the mighty Himalayas behind her.
Which month did you travel upto North Pakistan?
Regards, Nadeem

Amazed Hello Greetings from Australia , first of all i would like to congratulate you for writing this brilliant article , i have been to Pakistan myself and i have traveled through most of the country.
I must say if you are a traveler and don't visit Pakistan you are missing a lot. Letting aside the Taliban issue which largely is heated up because of US invasion of Afghanistan , Pakistan by and large is a beautiful country and is a friendly Nation not to forget the food is one of the best in the world.
Its pathetic that people don't get to see the real picture and do not travel , we believe what we are told by. 11% Americans have passports you can tell from that.
On average i consider Pakistan and Pakistanis better than India and Indians (i have been to India a few times) , they don't hate India or Indians which is not the case on the other side of the border.
I hope both of them get a brain and live in peace.
Good luck with the journey mate , looking forward to reading a bit more on your blog.
Regards:
Thank you I just wanted to drop you a note and tell yo how much I envy the two of you....for being able to experience my birth place, you seem to have captured the essence of something that made a native born Iranian feel home sick (although I have not been back for decades). I also want to say thank you for letting me experience all the other places you visited on your journey and for helping me understand or at least reaffirm the belief that people are people and we are all citizens of the earth. Many happy Journeys in the future...

What a adventure Hello Robin, It's Danny. I'm Indonesian and live in Jakarta. I've been Kerinci. Such a lovely place. I went there in 2009. I met pak Ali, local person who have cinnamon trees on his backyard. I like to read your story, it's Epic. I can't imagine how hard to you to riding bicycle from Batam to Gunung Kerinci summit. Nice pictures too, I love it.
By the way, I posting some story in Kerinci also. If you don't mind to read it, it's such a honor for me.
Happy traveling.
hmmmm.... typical khasi beef shop.... tough it looks scary and unhealthy.... but i like this picture. it reminds me alot of my hometown..... and yup those people are definitely from meghalaya... as the woman in the picture wore a khasi traditional and a daily household dress.....
nice work erika, robin...

We are Erika and Robin from Scotland and in April 2005 we quit our jobs and set off to cycle from Scotland to İstanbul.
We reached İstanbul in October 2005 having discovered that cycling truly is the best way to travel and so decided to keep going beyond the Bosphorous......
We had never cycled any long distance before but had been wanting to travel for a long time and had finally saved enough and realised ıf we didn't set off now we never would. We decided cycling would be the best form of transport as we wanted to learn more about the countries and people we passed through at a s... full info
