I live in Chicago, Illinois. I am a Senior at UIC College Prep. I enjoy many sports such as Rugby and Softball. Even though I am an athlete, I still manage to get good grades and have a social life. I love to learn new things even if it is challenging for me. History isn't my strongest subject, but I enjoy it because it is very interesting to me and has some challenging information. I think it would be important this year for me to study World History because not many people are updated about events in other countries.

One firecat that has stood out the most for me has been Gerardo Perez. He has been very participant in class and he never always exceeds on a quiz or exam. He stood out to me the most because he really shows that he is interested in what we learn and he tries to help the others become better students. Another firecat that has stood out to me is Clarisa Prochowski. This year she has struggled with math a lot because of the Math 121/180 class. This class came as a challenge because it is fairly new to us and the content is very rigorous. She has been a very good student and during our lectures, she asks a lot of questions, and she makes sure she understands it before she can complete her homework. Sometimes ... read more

There isn't much to say about my beliefs. I have a very different prospective on how life should be. I have always struggled to fit in with others. The meaning of life isn't experienced how it was meant to be. That was the old me, and in so many words, I have grown. Not physically but mentally/ emotionally. My growth doesn't start with a common story of being bullied or facing a life threatening moment, although that has happened to me, but it starts with a simple idea of honesty. Throughout the years, people have know me as the nice honest person. In a way I sort of agree, but that is because I was raised to have manners and to help people with problems. My friends know the type of person I am, and changing ... read more

http://www.recipe.com/classic-irish-coffee/ My RIHLA this week isn't exactly an article, but it is a recipe. I chose a recipe because we recently were talking about products that were traded during the Atlantic Slave Trade, and how those have affected different cultures today. The recipe I chose is Classic Irish Coffee. This recipe was interesting to me because it has sugar and coffee beans that originated from the New World and Africa respectively. This conbination of products has impacted the Irish culture because this recipe has become a tradition for people to drink every St. Patrick's Day. The website states, "Irish Coffee was originally created by an Irish chef/barman as a warm and welcoming drink for the first American tourists who arrived in Ireland via transatlantic passenger airplanes." This shows how long t... read more

1. According to this article, how is modern slavery different from earlier forms of slavery throughout history? Modern slavery is different because the idea doesn't follow how there were farms (plantations). 2. Why does this movement against human sex trafficking connect to the legacy of President Lincoln? This connects to President Lincoln's legacy because he was the one to create The Emancipation Proclamation and eventally leading to the 13th ammendment of the Constitution of the United States. The movment shows how people are fighting for others' rights so they can be free from their "masters". 3. Describe the Polaris project. What do you think about this project? I think this project is very helpful because so many people are now becoming independent and they dont have to suffer through all the things they were going through ... read more

What are some of the reasons that books are banned in high schools? Some books are banned because they are contraversial topics that some people may not want their children to see because of race, age, or culture. Do you agree with any of these reasons? Explain. I actually am a "fence-sitter" for this topic because I believe that both are okay. Some people should be censored to these topics because of the beliefs they are accustomed to. They should have the right to believe in certain things and decide whether or not they are willing to expose themselves to such profanity. On the other hand, I also think that people should know the truth to life. Most books can talk about histoy, sex, and other contraversial topics. Even if those opinions are not true, ... read more

1) I don't agree with Castiglione's description because I think there is something more than just being loved by people. Just because people "love" you, doesn't mean they respect you for what you do. It's important to make sure people don't try to take advantage of your actions. I do still think there are men like that today. Not only are men acting like this still, but I think some women act like that too because they try to use people for the wrong reasons which is not right. 2) I do think he meant what he said because if it was a mistake when he first stated his opinion, he would have corrected it to make sure people don't misunderstand the meaning of what he meant. 3) I honestly think its better to lead through ... read more

1. A mountain that I have climbed since I've been here at UICCP was the ACT. I am definately not a good test taker, and everytime we would have the interims or other practice ACT tests, I wouldnt do so well on them. Ever since the first day of freshman year, the teachers started talking about the ACT and how we have to breakthrough 21. With support from my friends and teachers, I was able to do my best on this test because I know that I can have a better chance at getting into a great College/University. This experience has made me realize that the ACT is really important because schools do want to see that their future students can achieve the best they can. 2. An immediate mountain that I have to climb before ... read more
