The next day it rained! Louvre - here we come! Louvre may be the biggest museums I have ever visited. We spent there about 4-5 hours and went through only 1/3 of one section. And there are 3 sections! The real Mona Lisa was the highlight of the day!!! Hello! On Friday evening May 18. a group of 4 Erasmus exchange students - 3 turkish, 1 Finn = Me :) - took a night bus from Darmstadt to Paris. We arrived at Paris at 7 am the next morning, after an 8-hour-ride in a bus. The plan was to spend a long weekend, all together 4 days, in Paris. I made a trip to Regensburg to visit Ruusa and Hannu May 4-7. I travelled by train and it took in total 4,5 hours (delays included) to get from Darmstadt to Regensburg. The trip from Frankfurt to Regensburg takes 3 hours by IC train. We had an easy and relaxed weekend in Regensburg. Went shopping (of course!!) and did some touring in the city, ate well and drank enough in restaurants. Surely a great place to visit in Bayern!!! Beer lovers - go there! :) [View Full Entry]

This week: Wiesbaden! This city is the capital of the state Hessen and is located southwest from Frankfurt Am Main. It takes about 50 minutes by train from Darmstadt or Frankfurt Am Main to Wiesbaden. The city is charming! As "Historical Highlights of Germany" website states: "A poet's dream of a region..." is how Heinrich von Kleist once described Wiesbaden and its charming environs along the Rhine River. Hallo! Today we made a trip to Heidelberg with a vivid group of exchange students! IDEA (a group taking care of exchange students in Darmastadt) was our excursion host and our guide of the day, Markus, showed us around Heidelberg, the old university city. It takes about an hours by train from Darmstadt to Heidelberg. We walked around the town for a couple of hours and had a nice picnic in the afternoon on the northern side of the city, on the river banks. Heidelberg is a charming city!! Hello, Today we had an excursion to Frankfurt am Main, the "most international city in Germany, the largest financial centre on the continent, the historical city of coronations, the city of Goethe..." as stated by the Mayor Petra Roth. It takes about 20 min by regional train (and over 40 min by S-Bahn!) from Darmstadt to Frankfurt am Main. We walked around the downtown area for a couple of hours and ended the walking tour to the southern side of the river Main, to the "corner" of the local drink Apfelwein. Viimeinen purjehduspäivä! YHYYY!! Nostimme ankkurin St. Pierren edustalta aamupäivän aikana ja suuntasimme keulan kohti Martiniquen eteläosaa ja La Marinin satamaa. Aurinko paistoi kauniisti. Ilma oli kirkas mutta meillä mieli haikeutta täynnä. Tänään purjehtiminen loppuu. On aika alkaa valmistautua tulevaan kotimatkaan. Nostimme purjeet viimeistä kertaa aamuauringon paisteessa. Merellä ei ollut suurta maininkia, mutta tuuli oli hyvä 8-9 m/s. Helena kiisi 9 solmun vauhtia laineilla. Tästä menosta nauttisi kuka vaan. Otimme aurinkoa hautausmaalla lounaan teon jälkeen. Moikka, Tänään matkattiin Roseaun kaupungin edustalta St. Pierren lahdelle, Martiniquen pohjoispäähän. Matkaa oli n. 20 mpk. Apua! Viimeinen purjehduspäivä lähestyy! Yhyy... Me pysähdyttiin matkalla aamu-uinnille yhteen komeaan poukamaan. Helenaa ei ankkuroitu vaan se pidettiin moottorilla paikoillaan virtaavassa vedessä. Lähes koko miehistö hyppäsi veteen vilvoittelemaan ja peseytymään. Osa roikkui keulan ankkurivaijerissa, osa kellui rentona aalloilla. Kaikilla oli hauskaa!
