April 15th 2010

For Easter, I went for a 5 days road trip down South with 5 other French people Agathe, Sophie, Jerome, Damien and Pierre-Yves. We had hired two vans, the famous wicked campers, very successful with backpackers. We left Perth on the 1st of April in the evening and after a drive of 175 kms, we spent our first night in Bunbury. We had brought some food with us in order to prepare our own meals. We found easily some barbecue areas where we could cook. It was hard to fall asleep in the van for the first night and I was a bit afraid that some rangers would have kicked us out but as long as we were leaving early in the morning, it was ok. At dawn, we journey down through the majestic ludlow Tuart ... read more

The Blue Mountains is a mountainous region in New South Wales, Australia. It borders on Sydney's metropolitan area, its foothills starting approximately 50 kilometres west of the state capital. Consisting mainly of a sandstone plateau, the area is dissected by gorges up to 760 metres deep. The highest point of the range is 1,190 metres above sea level. A large part of the Blue Mountains is incorporated into the Greater Blue Mountains Area World Heritage Site, consisting of seven national park areas and a conservation reserve. The Aboriginal dream-time legend has it that three sisters, 'Meehni', 'Wimlah' and Gunnedoo' lived in the Jamison Valley as members of the Katoomba tribe. These beautiful young ladies had fallen in love with three brothers from the Nepean tribe, yet tribal law forbade them to marry. The brothers were not ... read more

Sydney is the largest city in Australia and the state capital of New South Wales. Sydney has a metropolitan area population of approximately 4.5 million. Sydney is often called "the Harbour City". It is one of the most multicultural cities in the world, reflecting its role as a major destination for immigrants to Australia. The city is built on hills surrounding Sydney Harbour, an inlet of the Tasman Sea on Australia's south-east coast. It is home to the iconic Sydney Opera House, the Harbour Bridge and its beaches. The metropolitan area is surrounded by national parks, and contains many bays and rivers. Bondi Beach is a famous spot for surfers and many competitions are organized there. I spent two weeks working in Sydney with Johanna, my German colleague and Peter, my Swedish colleague. It was a ... read more

Albany is a little town located 400kms at the South of Perth. I spent one week raising awareness for the humanitarian organization I have been working for since I came to Perth. I went on this trip with Laura, Laura, Sam and John, my Scottish, German, French and Irish colleagues. We stayed in a little house in one camping at Emu Point. The population was very friendly and an Australian family invited me to share a dinner with them during the storm. The coast is beautiful and Albany embraces green principles, from wind-generated energy to sustainable and organic agriculture. The climate is temperate and the weather can change very quickly from sunshine to showers, four seasons in one day. ... read more

Approximately 25 kilometres South of Perth, Fremantle has long been known as Western Australia’s second city. Fremantle is Western Australia's major commercial port and handles the majority of the State's imports and exports. Fremantle is a major tourist attraction for travellers from all parts of the world and attracts large numbers of residents and visitors on a daily basis. The city offers a unique blend of a lively multicultural yet relaxed lifestyle. I like walking accross the streets of Fremantle during a Sunday afternoon. It is busy and there is often some entertaining, like some outdoors concerts. In the indoors market, you can buy some fresh fruit and vegetables. There are many restaurants along the Ocean and you can find many fish and chips. Fremantle is famous for its local beer called little creatures. ... read more

Just 15 minutes West of Perth, Cottesloe is internationally famous for its superb beach and terraced lawns overlooking the Indian Ocean. I like spending my Sunday afternoons there to go for a swim or just lay down on the sand to do nothing except listen the sound of the waves. It is a good spot for kite surfing too.... read more

Rottnest Island is Western Australia's very own Island getaway featuring a casual atmosphere, picturesque scenery. It is a very popular destination for interstate and international visitors. It is home to a small marsupial called the quokka. I took the ferry from Fremantle to spend one day on this little beautiful island. I hired a bike and I rode for 25kms around the island. On the way, I stopped on different beaches to do some snorkelling. It is a nice touristic place for a peaceful day.... read more
