The toilet brings me back Roger and Amy,
The photo of the toilet brought back a flush of memories from SE Asia. It looks like you are starting to get into the back pack experience. I want to join you!
Street food Although I don't care for any details, I'm just curious whether there have been any food poisoning issues arising from eating food prepared by street vendors. When I studied in Mexico they warned us that eating from the street would essentially have the same effect on your stomach as eating glass shards. Apparently I'm not as brave as Amy! Still loving the blog and was very happy to find two entries when I checked this morning.
Buddha, Ass Cheeks, Buddha Your inspired selection and organization of your (genuinely fantastic!) photos is something to be proud of. Sounds -- and looks -- like you two are having an amazing time! Take care of yourselves..!
Hello This is a great way for me to travel the world from my desk. Keep writing in great detail so I can live through you guys. I will be on a train tomorrow to travel to the exciting destination of ...... Connecticut. Quite lame and not as exciting as Thailand.
It gets better... Thailand is full of awesome and friendly people (although the street markets are no where to find them). If you really want to have a good experience, stop by a fancy hotel for a nice lunch to escape the streets. The JW Marriott (http://marriott.com/property/propertypage/BKKDT) or the Westin (http://www.starwoodhotels.com/westin/search/hotel_detail.html?propertyID=1446) on Sukhumvit road (take the sky train near soy nana) is a perfect place to enjoy a fresh watermelon juice cocktail by the rooftop pool. And try the Singapore style noodles, they are delish. There is also fantastic Korean food around (try the bibimbap - medley of meat, veggies, and rice, with red chili sauce that is not too spicy), and find a Thai-Suki restaurant where you can make your own soup at the table with fresh ingredients you choose. Oh Thailand. I hope you guys really enjoy it there. And the vendors, just say "Mi-Ow Khrap" for Roger or "Mi-Ow Kha" for Amy (means no thank you in Thai.)
Hairless Cat First, I have to say that I would have met you in Japan if I thought I were going to see a hairless cat. I've always wanted one. Second, whoever is writing this is absolutely hilarious. You should consider that for a career when you get back to DC (which is where you are coming back to in case you need reminding).
Noriyuki "Pat" Morita Was there any kind of eulogy, day of rememberance or shrine set aside for Okinawa's favorite son. Playing Al on Happy Days and as some slap-o sidekick to Jay Leno should have been enough, but then to become Mr. Kesuke Miyagi should be enough to get something going. I am hoping for an update on this situation.
Funnier than dirt Roger, If I didn't know you better, I'd say shame on you for your take on all the polygamists in Utah. However, knowing how you fancy watching a 90 year old man walk around a corporate conglomerate with his 16 year old brides and their 30 kids, I know it's all said with jealousy. You definitely need to add disclaimers to allow us to prepare ourselves before we read these at work. I was laughing so loud, others around me wondered what was going on. You two are hilarious and should write all of this into a book upon your return.
Way to ease into your trip... I've been utterly fascinated with your trip so far and how you've been getting around in a place where speaking English isn't a mandate decreed by the lord almighty. Just know that I'm living vicariously through this blog while marinating in various infant excretions at 3 am. Ok, maybe you don't really have to know that. Anyway, can't wait to see where you go next!
I enjoyed this entry. I found the highlights to include, "Our first day in Utah was spent in Nevada" and "If you want to cruise for polygamists, Wal-Mart is the place." However, the best part was definitely, "If you can’t decide between the pork, ribs, sausage and beef, don’t." Words I live my life by. If that isn't a t-shirt somewhere, somebody really dropped the ball.
Small addiction Your blog is turning into a small addiction for me. It's better than any reality tv show Amy! Thank you for the interesting and educational background as well as the witty humor! I find myself constantly checking to see if you have put in a new post or not. It has been a few days......we're waiting.......
While I am sitting here at my desk dealing with all this crazy work stuff -- I get to escape from reality and read your blog. I LOVE IT! Your pictures are great....your descriptions are so vivid and amazing. I feel like I am included in your trip -- and just for a few minutes every day I get to see the world through both of your eyes. Enjoy each and every minute and let me know if you ever need anything along the way.
Could you bring me a Mos Burger? Sounds like you guys are having a wonderful time!! The journal entries are fabulous, and I no longer feel the need to travel--keep up the good work :)
Lots of hugs and kisses
It is quite wonderful this is like being with you and I love the description of everything. The pictures are just great but you both don't quite look right in the garb..but I love seeing you there. This was such a great idea for your mothers and dads to survive and actually enjoy your trip. Love you, MOM
