After our skiing and a few days in Paris we headed to my host family in Normandie. We spent the weekend catching up, eating, playing basketball and guitar hero which was good fun. Jean-Paul kindly let us borrow his car for a few days and so we headed off on a quick tour of Normady and Brittany. We saw Mt Saint Michel, St Malo, Bayeux and the D-day landing beaches. A lot of history to chew! We enjoyed ourselves and it was lovely to catch up with the Dorrs, Rohan got on well with the boys and had long chats to [View Full Entry]

After a day in Paris and a night with Floriane we trained to Grenoble and then bused to Villard de Lans, the small ski village where we would be spending the next five days. We found our accommodation, an appartment in a building just 200m from the foot of the slopes, incredible views. We were pumped as to hit the gnarly slopes. we didnt get into our appartment until late so we crashed in bed ready for the next day. we started by catching the cable car and chairlifts to a spot we thought would be good to find our feet, [View Full Entry]

Well after our time in Galway we decided to head to Kilkenny for new years to catch up with Rob and Mickey, two Irish guys we'd met kloofing in South Africa. Rob was very kind and gave us a bed in his house and everything. Unfortunately Rohan wasn't feeling well so we managed to squeeze a spot in at the local doctors surgery in the afternoon. He was put on a course of antibiotics and some paracetamol to fix him up, but he still should have spent the evening in bed. Instead he insisted we go out (we were in Ireland [View Full Entry]

Boxing day morning we caught a bus to Galway, on the wast coast of Ireland. Our hostel here is lovely and has a very homely feel. We've even met a lovely Tassie girl named Hayley from Hobart (What a small world). Galway is a great city, much smaller than Dublin but full of life. We've had a few wild nights out with the crew from the hostel, mostly from Aus, Ireland and France, which has been a lot of fun. We've also been relaxed and have spent a few evenings just snuggling up in the lounge room and watching movies. Our [View Full Entry]

Well out of hot Africa and straight into the middle of European winter! We had a slight hiccup making our way to Dublin, we missed our connecting flight due to airport delays and so after spending the night in London and buying new tickets (a big dent in the wallet) we finally made it to the Emerald Isle. After three full on action packed weeks in SA our time in Ireland has been spent a little more chilled out. On our first day in Dublin we went on a walking tour of the city. We learnt a lot more about Irish [View Full Entry]

Christmas in Dublin

Our last few days in South Africa were spent in East London with family. We had a great time with Kate and Mike, Ruth and Brian and all the kids and was great for Alice to meet all her relatives. We had a big Christmas lunch of roast Buck and a swim in the pool. Unfortunately Alice was sick for four days with a bug, but we still managed to juggle our days around all the vomiting. After a few days with the family we drove up to Kei Mouth where we spent a night in Kate and Mike's neighbour's shack. [View Full Entry]

After our time at Addo we made our way to another section of the park, Woody Cape, which sits along the coastline (and doesn't house any elephants). It was from here that we were to start our 2 day hike. We met up with four young locals and cooked a braai for tea at the hut where we spent the night at the base of the trail. Day 1 of the hike was 19.5 km and was mostly walking through forest and along the beach. The scenery was amazing and we got to know the four locals as we walked along. [View Full Entry]

After two nights at Tsitsikamma national park (where we didnt do much as Alice was feeling ill) we made our way to Addo Elephant Park, a national park of 380,000 hectares. We arrived late afternoon and after setting up our tent (safely inside the fence of the main camp) we went on an evening game drive. Unfortunately we didnt see any lions but we did get right up close to a pack of hyenas. We saw cubs playing, others feeding on carcasses and calling to each other. It really was very entertaining! The next day we spent the day driving around [View Full Entry]

Well we've started our trail along the Garden Route, the south coast of Africa. We've hired a car, a VW golf with no airconditioning. After a long morning of driving our first stop was at wilderness national park. Wilderness is a cute little coastal town where the river joins the sea. After arriving early afternoon we hired a canoe and went for a paddle up the river. We spotted a few different types of kingfisher birds and other wildlife. Up stream we pulled the canoe to shore and started on an hour walk to some waterfalls. We splashed around and returned [View Full Entry]
