Very much enjoyed hearing about Panama A location we have not made it to yet but have enjoyed your descriptions. Love, love, love the star fish photos. Sounds like the border crossing was a hassle but glad they allowed you to move along. I guess that is how they get their entertainment.
Cool! Panama will always remain one of my favorite places in the world, if not my absolute favorite. Loved the bit about the frog turning into a grim reaper instead of a prince. Happy and safe travels to you two!
Mudpot The mud of a mudpot takes the form of a viscous, often bubbling, slurry. As the boiling mud is often squirted over the brims of the mudpot, a sort of mini-volcano of mud starts to build up, sometimes reaching heights of 3–5 feet. Although mudpots are often called "mud volcanoes", true mud volcanoes are very different in nature. The mud of a mudpot is generally of white to greyish color, but is sometimes stained with reddish or pink spots from iron compounds. When the slurry is particularly colorful, the feature may be referred to as a paint pot.

Glad you weren't running from a volcano! Great adventures--waterfalls and volcanoes--what could be better? The films were fantastic--we could really see the boiling bubbles! Thanks for taking us along!
Wonderful wildlife! What great animals you saw! I love the turtle tracks (so fab to know an animal from its tracks) and also the basilisk that I only knew from Harry Potter (so I had to look it up on the web) and the so sweet sloths. And "oh shit"--I read that in any language it's the most common expression before one dies in an accident. So glad you didn't die and just got wiped out from a wave! Happy travels!
Svante
The first question came to mind was , did you ever read the book of Job ?..
I would love to be able to walk the path of the Job and to see a part of this ancient world.
Thank you for sharing your vacation with the world in such details , I can say from reading about your journey and seeing the pictures i\'m taken there visually in spirit.
hi! i loved and really enjoyed reading your entries. i'm from yemen, well my parents are, and i haven't seen nearly as much as you have!i know you said you were disappointed about not being able to see the insides of mosques, shrines, etc but if you look up "al saleh masjid," you can get a pretty good idea of some beautiful architecture there. i've been inside the mosque and it is stunning but for some reason, the place is FILLED with moths. you won't really find them flying around, but you'll find hundreds of them up against a single stained window. it almost freaked me out because there were just so many in one place!
there is another place you probably could have visited, an ancient city called Marib. It was once ruled by the queen of Sheba (present - day yemen) and was the capitol of her kingdom. They've excavated some temples and i think she's also buried around there. maybe you would have been able to see it.
and also, i hope you got to visit some of the beaches in a'den. they're a great relief from all the dust and dull rock!
happy traveling!
Tack! Hej!
We are enjoying following your trip! Loved the whale photos. We've been on Orca watching trips in the NW United States , Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and Sperm Whales in NZ and we know how tough it is to get their photo. Sneaky....as big as they are they move with grace and speed.
Murmansk Awesome! I've actually driven there from Oslo. I drove to Bergen, took Hurtigruten to Kirkenes and drove from there. A great journey!
As for that "I live in Murmansk" thing - he might have wanted to say that he lives in Murmansk Oblast, not the city of Murmansk itself.
Bikini visit??? Sure you don\'t wanna go to the Bikini atoll? It should be safe for a visit (i.e. not living there permanently & not eating locally produced food). It would be great for diving. No one dares to fish there. And I wouldn\'t probably be there either, but that you will have to check first:)
nice article That's a nice article on Inca Trail. I have been wanting to go there for a while but haven't done it yet. Thanks for posting and good luck with future travels!
Great entry! Hi Ake,
this blog was fun to read and some of the pictures were fascinating! The ship-breaking in particular looked interesting, never heard of that before. And props to you for respecting the local's wishes not to take pictures of them. Unfortunately, there appear to be many people on this website who don't have the same kind of respect for locals, and just shove their cameras into their faces. Great to finally read something about Bangladesh, not many people go there (yet?), probably as it's not glamorous to go to one of the poorest countries on this planet.
Cheers,
Jens
We are thrilled to read this blog We are going to Bangladesh later this year and it is great reading your post. Not too many people travel to or blog from Bangladesh. How much time in total did you spend there. You are correct that your photos are not your usual quality...sorry for the camera issues. But, loved the bird on the cow photo. The boat breaking looks interesting. We may need to take a look at that. Looking forward to your next blog.
We are Emma Holmbro and Ake Dahllof. We live in Stockholm, Sweden.
We have travelled more or less regularly since the mid 1990-ies and it seems like the more we travel the more difficult it is to decide where to go next. Not because we are running out of places to visit but because we find more places we want to go to faster than we manage to travel to them.
Some of the things from our travel bucket list we have ticked off since we started this blog in 2006 are
