.I am a proud American and I love to travel with my family. I have been to muliple places in Europe and South America. I am half Italian and half Mexican. World History is important to study this year because it opens minds about not only what has happened in the 60s,70s,80s,90s, etc, but it focuses more on what happens in the 600s,700s, etc. It really gives the students an idea of what has happened in the past throughout the world.

Amnesty International's Website Summary While I was looking at the Amnesty International's Website, I noticed there were a lot of world news articles, issues, campaigns, cases, victories, and research that this website is involved in across the world. The organization's vision is of a world in which every person enjoys all of the human rights stated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international human rights instruments in other countries. In pursuit of this vision, Amnesty International’s mission is to undertake research and action focused on preventing and ending grave abuses of these rights. It addresses governments, intergovernmental organizations, armed political groups, companies and other non-state actors. Amnesty International seeks to expose human rights abuses accurately, quickly and persistently. The article that I chose to read about is ... read more

Illinois State University 1) Criminal Justice Association because I am interested in a career in the field of Criminal Justice. Top 10 Best Experiences: 1) Being apart of the Cadaver Lab Enrichment at UIC for Anatomy class. It has really opened my eyes about what Anatomy class would be like in college and just being really shocked and amazed on how many arteries, veins, muscles, etc that we have in our body and how everything has a name. It is really fun and I have an awesome time dissecting cadavers and exploring the body at hand. 2) Finance Enrichment: Being apart of the Finance Enrichment in March was hard work, but was rewarding. Going to class two times per week after school really helped me significantly in class. I felt more clear and confident in what I was learning in class because we had reviewed it in the enrichment class the night before. I also learned ... read more

Reflection 1. So far, my spring break is being spent in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. My family owns a summer house in Pell Lake, which is about 10 minutes away from Lake Geneva. Everyday my mom, dad, and I have traveled downtown and has gone shopping, relaxing around the lake, observing the scenery, and went out to eat. My spring break has been really awesome and enjoyable so far and I never get tired of being out here. 2. The things that I am the most looking forward to in Q4 is making my decision about what college I am going to, Prom, Senior Week, College Signing Day, Graduation, and starting a new chapter in my life at the college I decide on attending in the fall. 3. I want to end my senior year strong! Stronger ... read more

Reflection 1. My first shout out goes to D'yanna. I really think she is a true scholar and strives to do her personal best at all times. She is in my advisory and she is always the first one to make sure that everybody is okay, has everything we need, participates, suggest ideas, and volunteers to do things. She is an extremely hard worker in every aspect. She has influenced me to care more and be strong. The other shout out goes to Patty. She juggles so many things on a day to day basis and still manages to be successful. She has the most challenging AP classes and studies so hard to ensure her success. She makes time to go to church and makes sure that God is over everything else she does. She has ... read more

Flying Experience At the beginning of my senior year in high school, I was given the opportunity to have a private flying lesson. I value this experience because I love to embrace unfamiliar experiences and use it as a way to grow. Flying a Diamond Aircraft-40 is something that most people do not get to experience in a lifetime, and by doing this, it led me to have an open mind about seeking new opportunities and embracing new challenges. Looking down from the plane, I saw the whole city of Chicago and how vast and beautiful it is. Seeing this, encouraged me to want to experience the vast opportunities the world has to offer. Although I was only in the plane for a short time, the experience lingers on as powerful symbolism and will continue to ... read more

Joseph Kony-New York Times 1.) The article that I picked was talking about Joseph Kony and how a YouTube video about how the people of America is going to help advertise Kony's name, so that Congress and the people in America will not forget that 2012 is the year that Joseph Kony will be arrested. In my article, it also was talking about who Joseph Kony is and why he is such an evil man. Kony is a man who lives in Uganda and takes children away from their families and teaches them how to kill. He also turns the girls into sex slaves. Kony has been doing this for 26 years and nobody has done anything to stop him. Now a man wants to take action and make sure that Kony gets arrested this year ... read more

“Lincoln’s Legacy Fights Modern Slavery” 1.) Modern slavery is not much different from earlier forms of slavery throughout history. Modern day slavery is also including trafficking and being mentally and emotionally abused in that sort of way. Earlier forms of slavery, slaves would clean house, do dishes, farm, etc. Chores that would usually be done around the house. Slaves were mistreated back then by having dirty clothes, deprevation of sleep and food, and were sometimes beaten by their masters. In modern day slavery, there are still people on farms, in homes, in factories, and in the commercial sex trade at a lot places throughout the United States. 2.) This movement against human sex trafficking connects to the legacy of President Lincoln because Lincoln passed th... read more

Banned Books 1. Some of the reasons why books are being banned in schools are because they contain violence, foul language, pornographic language (sexual intercourse), and topics that are seen as Rated R toward parents. Many parents do not want their children to be exposed to those topics because maybe the child does not know about the topic yet or because of the language used throughout the book is inapproriate. 2. I do agree with some of the reasons on why certain books are being banned in shools because some topics are more appropriate than others to teach in the classroom. I am sure teachers know the difference between what is school appropriate or not and if the book needs parental consent before being taught. The teachers need to put themselves in the parents shoes too. ... read more
