The Baby turned 50 years old this year. My sisters and I grew up in Modesto California until my little sister Kathleen, graduated from the 6th grade. We then moved to Campbell California. My mom still calls my little sister “The Baby.” The good news is that she no longer needs diapers. The Baby moved to London in the late 90s and has hung around there ever since. She works as a business consultant in London. The Baby and her boyfriend Chris took about a month off and have been touring the west coast of the USA with Liz and Dave. My sister Peg decided to throw The Baby a party for her 50th birthday. These are the pictures from that party. Back in the 70s, my mom and dad took my sister’s Jen and Peg ... read more

I had a 7 hour layover in Dubai, so I decided to rent a car and drive around. It is very clear to me that there is enough money here to build large glass and steel buildings and populate them with designer labels. I am not entirely certain what is missing from this place. Could it be a soul?... read more

I went to Finland to attend James and Karita's wedding. You may remember them from my travels in India. Their wedding was done really well. Great people, great food, and a great venue. I have included a few of my favorite pictures from the wedding. While I was there, my friend Mirva was in Helsinki. She showed me around Helsinki and we met a few of her freinds. Enjoy!... read more

I finally got an apartment last night on Manhattan Island. None of these pictures are of my new apartment. These are pictures I took while walking around Manhattan during my first week here. I arrived in NYC on April 17th and have been going full speed ahead trying to get an apartment for my temporary visit here. I am here until the end of October, or so. I looked at about 20 apartments all over this island of Manhattan. I finally got one last night and I move in tomorrow at 11am. I am looking for the New York experience while I am visiting. I wanted to have all the conveniences right in my neighborhood. Chelsea provides that. There are a bunch of other neighborhoods I would have been happy in also, but I took this ... read more

I was planning a trip to visit my family in California when I got an email from my friend Marty that he was going on a road trip from Seattle to Vegas again this year to the NASCAR races. We had such a great time last year that I came back from Central America a week early to go again. Inder and Dirt couldn’t make it this year so Mike and Steve joined us for the road trip. It was just as much fun as last year! Steve is an excellent cook so the food was even better than last year. Plus, Mike started us all laughing by taunting us like we were in a fraternity, and then we all joined in teasing each other, which kept us laughing all weekend. You know the old story, ... read more

I am on the chicken bus traveling from Belize back to Guatemala. It is true, people bring chickens on the chicken bus. They travel to the market where they sell them as food. I have been vegetarian for a very long time so having these chickens sit next to me on a bus, did nothing for my appetite. So this woman just got on the bus with 4 or 5 chickens. She has 4 or 5 birds that she is holding upside down in her left hand. I think they are chickens. One is looking at me like I am about to eat it. I guess we all look the same to chickens. They can’t tell the vegetarians from the meat eaters. Today I was a mile deep underground, in an underground river cave. It was ... read more

"Tikal was the capital of a conquest state that became one of the most powerful kingdoms of the ancient Maya.Though monumental architecture at the site dates back as far as the 4th century BC, Tikal reached its apogee during the Classic Period, ca. 200 to 900 AD. During this time, the citydominated much of the Maya region politically, economically, and militarily, while interacting with areas throughout Mesoamerica such as the great metropolis of Teotihuacan in the distant Valley of Mexico."
