18th February Ollie woke nice and early to collect his police report and made it back within an hour! Quite efficient and easy! So we were able to make our midday bus to Sihanoukville with no problems. Of course being ipod-less meant having to put up with a screaming baby for most of the journey! Ollie became very envious of Tim's ipod at this stage.
Arived at our bungalow and headed dow to the beach for a quick browse/drink by the beachside in the darkness. After some Khmer curry for dinner, we went back to the beach to some places which sold beers for 50 cents US!
19th February A comfy bed and nothing on the agenda meant we could have a big sleep in for once! It was much needed.
We headed down to the beachside late morning and parked ourselves on some beach chairs under an umbrealla. The view was fantastic, but Sihanoukville had a few obstacles in our way. We were harrassed every two minutes by locals wanting us to buy fruit, bracelets or have massages. I think at one stage someone offered to cut Tim's toenails! We also found that the lack
of bins meant rubbish was everywhere. It was a great feeling when you hit something in the water whilst swimming. Immediate thoughts are 'uh oh hope that wasnt a jellyfish... nope just a plastic bag!'
With many flyers going out for the best spots to hit at night time, we had to try them out of course! We did even better on the 50 cent beers and found 25 cen beers. We shared this experience with some Danish people - again... If something was good about this place, it was the beer price! Novelty!
20th February Another day dedicated to the beach. We found a place with beach beds which had a policeman standing out the front, This worked to our favour as he kept anyone wanting to sell fruit etc to us!
Not much else to say, sun by day, bars by night!
21st February Today is an untold story to any family member to save worrying, We had booked ourselves a flight on Laos Airlines from Phnom Penh to Vientiane in Laos. So it was back on a 4hr bus ride, then waiting around at the airport for 3hrs. Luckily the was
a Man Utd game being played on a TV there. Ollie has almost converted Tim to watching football now... well at least he calls it football not soccer anymore!
Excited but nervous to be flying on an old propeller plane, the kind you think may go missing in a jungle somewhere, our safety was back on easy street as the flight turned out to be codeshare with Vietnam Airlines. It was an Airbus A320 and Tim's nanna had told him that she flew on them before and they were fine.
So we met a Canadian traveller named ben who had finshed his degree and was travelling around the world until September. We shared a cab, accomodation and two towers of beer with him that evening. Check out the photos. Furthermore, we decided to find a club that night. It turned out to be extremely smokey and full of locals plus a few loud Australians from Melbourne. It was quite a different experience to any club we'd been to before.
22nd February That morning, we left Ben to sleep and took a bus to Vang Vieng to try the famous tubing which everyone seemed to be raving
about. We arrived mid afternoon and the bus couldnt have dropped us further away. It was so hot and humid, and all places were saying we'd have to pay 100,000 kip a light minimum. We proved them wrong to find 30,000 a night! Oh yeh!
That evening we checked out the town. We found where to hire tubes and we also found cafes which streamed back to back episodes of Friends, and Family Guy all day! We were set for the evening!
23rd February Another sleep in, another meal of bacon and eggs to line our stomachs, some more sunscreen and a tube later, we climbed into the back of a tuk-tuk to take us to the start. We were met by hundreds of young people like oursleves. The atmosphere was amazing! There were giant swings everywhere, letting go two storeys high and bruising when you hit the water. We tried a few ourselves and had the best time!
We tubed around with some English girls and got merry before heading back to grab a bite. We headed to the riverside parties that night which were still as wild as the tubing!
24th February Today we went tubing again except we didnt hire a tube this time. After making it through the bars, we decided to float all the way back to the town. Floating was a bad choice! We went through rapids about ankle deep so we kept cutting ourselves and that lasted for about 2hrs. It was painful but adventurous at the same time. There were plenty of sections along the 4km float where we swam to do our 'monthly fitness'.
So exhausted from the last two days, we crashed pretty instantly!
25th February Today began a long day of travel. 9.30 bus to Vientiane, then two shuttles, a 14hr train ride led us to the next day (26th). Tim was very unwell on the train ride, similar to how Ollie was on the boat in Thailand.
26th February So today we've found a really nice lodge. It has the best shower so its a good way to freshe up before heading home tomorrow. We have been to Khao San Rd tody to do some shopping, and are about to go meet Alex from our trek in Chaing Mai for dinner tonight!
Tomorrow we fly out
of Bangkok at 5pm, but beforehand we will visit MBK which is a massive shopping centre. Apparently its hard enough to just find the exit, but anything you want to buy you'll be able to find there.
See you all soon!
