Katrina drinking beer!!!Katrina drinking beer!!!Katrina drinking beer!!!

Mike was becoming concerned with Katrina's beer drinking as it meant less for him!
We arrived in the old quarter of Hanoi at night. This place was madness with small windy streets to get lost in; people lighting fires burning their offerings to the gods and the usual motobikes driving over pavements and beeping away. We arrived at the Viet fun hotel which was to be our base for nearly a week. We were welcomed by Wynn and his family including little baby Tom.

The next day we set out to explore Hanoi. We hopped in a taxi and explained that we wanted to go to the one pillar pagoda but the taxi man spoke no English and ended up dropping us off at the end of the street after driving around in a circle. The next taxi we jumped in had such a dodgy meter and ended up charging us a fortune (by Vietnamese standards). We hopped out at a beautiful lake and walked through to the one pillar pagoda. For some reason vietnamese people were filming us walking through the park?!?!? We visited the one pillar pagoda (we weren't even that impressed after all that effort) and the temple of literature before heading off to catch a water puppert theatre show. This is an Vietnamese tradition which was designed by people living in the countryside. The pupperters stand behind a bamboo wall and work the pupperts under the water. We didn't really understand the story of the history of Hanoi but it was entertaining none the less. We headed back to the old quarter and got lost through the market, where we stubbled accross a dog's head for sale. Don't think we will forget that sight!!
