Ste Kitesurfing
or at least attempting to! good morning from Vietnam!
apologies for not updating any sooner we have had a few dramas.....where do i begin hmmmmmm!
Our boat trip to Saigon was more like a bus with boat rides to Saigon we spent the first day on the boat which was more like a stretched canoe it was lovely to go down the Mekong and see all the people that live on there, all the children were waving and smiling at us. We crossed the Cambodian border and then headed onto the Vietnamese side got the formalities done and dusted then carried onto chao doc once there we checked into a hotel which was included in the price so we assumed it was a dive but it was quite nice in the end! after being followed round by some very bizarre Vietnamese lad on a cyclo we retired to bed.......up early then back on the canoe to visit a cham village then a fish farm (a section of the river with fish in) then on to a bus for 7hours how nice-not!
We arrived in Saigon late afternoon and got ourselves a nice guesthouse all WAS good.........next morning we decided to go and visit the
Mui ne
Bex was a natural war museum it has lots of bits and bobs left over from the war, on the way we soon realised how large this city was there is a population of 9million and there are 4million mopeds unbelievable! the way of crossing a road here is somewhat different you basically have to just walk out into the traffic and let them go around you very scary when you have 4 lanes of traffic coming towards you.......any way we were in the middle of crossing one of these nightmares Ste had walked ahead i was some where in the middle when a man on a moped snatched my handbag from me......i just stood there in shock Ste ran after them but it is like following a needle in a hay stack.......a local guy took us to the tourist department where they took details and then we were taken to 3 different police stations back to the scene then eventually to the police station two doors away from our guesthouse!!!! I made a statement and our guesthouse receptionist translated it into Vietnamese. we went to the collect the statement the next day for our insurance......the bag had Ste's camera in some dollars Vietnamese
Rice Hats
lady in Vietnam cutting us yet more pineapples!! dong and loads of other bits that we needed like my diary and bracelets that i had bought along with my bank card! it was very upsetting and unnerving that people do things like that in broad daylight surrounded by people. so needless to say we didn't get to the museum!
We went on a trip the next day to see the cu chi tunnels.....these are the tunnels that were used in the war they were so small! but the people here are too so.....! They have made tunnels for tourist use and they were small enough Ste did the man thing and had to go in them he came out very sweaty and said he did not like they were pitch black and very small! we have no pictures of any of this as we do not have a camera now so there will definitely be no pics for a while!
We are now in the lovely beach resort of Mui ne it was a 4hr bus journey to here from Saigon.....it is on the Pacific so the waters are clear and sand is white! just what we need at the moment ha ha ha. We are staying in the Moon beach area which is big on kite surfing, the main reason we came here so Ste could use his kite! we booked to have lessons thats both of us to have lessons.......! We practiced on a small training kite at first yesterday Ste already had the hang of that and i thought i picked it up quite well next thing he brought out a bloody parachute.....the lad that was teaching us is Vietnam's number one kitesurfer! how funny. I opted to go first i was taken through all the safety bits then i was strapped onto it.....it was OK at first then we had a slight gust and i was pulled along and ate sand! not good so i decided that it was not for me the power of the kite was unreal and it was so much harder than it looks! Obviously Ste carried on and mastered it very well.
Today Ste had a three hour lesson to get him in the water.....he was doing so well and nearly up on the board! (after breaking a kite oppssss).......when a jellyfish decided to bite him he was rushed out of the water and they girl put a load of vinegar onto it, it got him on the leg foot and his arm what a drama! but he is still alive so that's OK.
We are travelling to Hoi an at lunch time tomorrow.....that will take us a total of 16 hours to get there by bus we can not wait for that ha ha! So far we are not too impressed with Vietnam but i am sure it will get better fingers crossed.....off to have some fresh fish tonight that is one thing that they have got right ha ha ha!
Hope people are OK speak soon xxxxxxxx
