Thursday 11 February
Phuket, Phi Phi, Pascal & Ping Pong!!

Arrived in Phuket and met at the airport by Pascal. For those of you who have not visited the house we share with John and Judy in France, Pascal looks after the property for us during the summer months and spends the winter months in Phuket. He is also a very good friend. It was great to get away from the hustle and bustle of Bangkok. Pascal and Yedha (apologies if this is spelt incorrectly) live in a very pleasant house in Kamala which is about 30 mins drive from Phuket Town, We were made to feel very welcome by them both and were introduced to the local beach followed by dinner at chez Pascal where we ate monk fish caught by him the previous day and cooked by Yedha in the traditional Thai way. The following day we all boarded a Long Tail Boat and went fishing and snorkelling with lunch on Bamboo Beach. The day’s catch was prepared by Yedah and consumed by us all that evening. The evening ended with a trip to one of the many local bars called G’day - slightly Australian but the female

Our day out with Pascal
bar staff very Thai !!!

On day 3 in Phuket Pascal took us around the island to see the sights - beautiful scenery, Buddhas, Temples and even monkeys running wild. In the evening we had dinner at a local French restaurant the owner of which Pascal seems to know quite well - he actually seems to know quite a lot of people here - mostly French, who he has met over the many years he’s been coming here. After dinner he showed us the very bright lights of Patong which is one of the main tourist towns on Phuket - I have never quite experienced anything like this - the ‘popular’ parts of town are just bars and ‘entertainment establishments’ with only one thing on the menu - and it is not the beer! I will not go in to detail but a pint of bitter down the local seems a million miles from this! Anyway Pascal was the perfect guide and kept us on the straight and narrow (well almost)! - making sure we were not enticed by anyone or anything we shouldn’t have been and pointing out the boys from the girls !!!

Ping Pong Alley!!!!!
Despite a late night we were up early the following morning to catch our ferry to Phi Phi.Island. The trip took about one and a half hours over turquoise seas, passing isolated islands. Phi Phi itself is a beautiful paradise island - palm trees, clear blue seas and white sandy beeches. Whilst both Phi Phi and Phuket suffered enormously from the Tsunami 5 years ago there seemed little evidence of this now with the Thai government acting very quickly to restore one of their main sources of revenue - tourism. We landed at Phi Phi town and took a long tail boat to our Beach Resort. The resort was all it was cracked up to be - we had a detached bungalow set in the hills and proceeded to chill out for 2 days.We actually arrived on Valentines Day which coincided with the start of the Chinese New Year (how romantic I hear you say). During our stay we snorkelled several times - we hired a long tail boat to see some of the sights and our guide took us snorkelling with turtles and sharks. On our final day we both succumbed to a Thai massage on the beach -

Our first glimpse of where we stayed
a great end to our stay.

We took the ferry back to Phuket where we stayed one more night with Pascal, well almost, as we had to leave for the airport at 5.00am to catch our flight back to Bangkok. Everybody we have met during our short stay here has been extremely friendly and welcoming. We have enjoyed the Thailand experience very much but Australia now beckons……………

Order Placed
Looks lovely guys and impressed with the photos, yours or downloaded from the blog website?! You've certainly hedged your bets with the spelling of Pascal's partner's name! Presumably this is where she retired to after filming Star Wars!? In terms of gifts an order has been placed for a Lady Boy!

A joke for your Aussie friends when you arrive
A guy walks into a bar in New Zealand and orders a white wine. All the Kiwis sitting around the bar look up, expecting to see some pitiful Australian from the east. The bartender says, "Yor nut frum arund hier, are you?" The guy says, "No, I'm from Canada." The bartender says, "Whut do you do un Cunuda?" The guy says, "I'm a taxidermist." The bartender says, "A texidumust? Whut duz a texidumust do? Do you drive a texi?" "No, a taxidermist doesn't drive a taxi. I mount animals." The bartender grins and hollers, "It's okay boys. Hu'z one uv us." Souns like you are having a good time, weather here still awful!!
