We caught a Sâamláw" that's the closes interpretation of spelling I can do on this keyboard" If you’re not sure what one is, it’s a push-bike with a twin seat behind the rider. A little like a rickshaw to the JEATH War Museum in Kanchanaburi. It is a haunting reconstruction of what the prisoners of war suffered whilst building the bridge over the river Kwai where 16,000 POW's lost there life's then to continue the theme we trundled to the Death railway and research museum where they carried on the theme showing you how the POWs lived and died and what the medical huts looked like, all very upsetting. It reminds you how barbaric the Japanese where to there prisoners.

We then took a trip to the far end
Of Kanchanaburi where the actual bridge over the river Kwai is built, and took a slightly nervous walk across it. Nervous because there is only a thin path down the middle and if people are coming the other way its us invariably who have to step to one side for them to pass which means standings on a thin plank over the river

Whilst at this end of town we also took a long boat ride along the river Kwae, to the sitting Buddha and the caves. I personally thought this was a waste of time visiting. Possibly a Buddha too many and the walk to the caves was like going along monk world instead of Disney world with collection boxes every 10 foot. But then that might be me being a miserable 40 year old cynic. But on a plus side the long boat is absolute fun an worth every Baht, ours cost us 600

Beer barrel bar is very good place to relax at night unfortunately they don’t sell cocktails so Tess has to drink Singha beer whist we eat a selection of nibbles. One thing about the Beer Barrel is the mini zoo they have. Well they have a few ostriches and geese but I am sure they have more but it was dark.
