Monday 22 February
We have one mutual feeling this morning - this time next week our travels will come to an end. How did five weeks pass so quickly? Sombre breakfast at Banana Fan Sea Resort, made worse by the fact that the Hotel is celebrating it's 15th year's anniversary, all employees especially happy and wearing celebratory polo shirts, right up to the owner himself! From the gardeners, to the airport shuttle driver, smiles are dazzling. No doubt that this place deserves it's status in Chaweng. We are encouraged to pose for a farewell photograph next to a large teak elephant in reception, to be emailed to us at a later date, just to remind us what we will be missing. Discharged at airport, 10.40am. Ko Samui airport has to be the most beautiful, laid back, landscaped airport in the world. We have photos to prove it! Small children are dancing in the gardens where irrigation showers spray coo waters while happy parents wait to dress them again in time for their flight. Never heard one single disgruntled child, extraordinary! Taken by cute tram to our aircraft. It is a modern propjet 70-seater with all seats filled. 2 passenger each side with quite a arrow aisle. Flight to take 45 minutes from Ko Samui to Krabi. Crew manage to serve and clear a full meal service, which we thought pretty cool. Bit of turbulance prior to landing, not too much of a worry, but the landing was noteworthy. Bumped around, before slewing left. Paula freaked a bit (as did several others, who prayed loudly) and screamed at Leo to adopt the brace position (you all know the drill). We came to a halt amid declarations of relief. Eventful flight. Bought a £3pp mini bus shuttle to Ao Nang and started to admire the dramatic scenery enfolding us along the way. We already love Krabi and after checking into our comfortable room for the next three nights, walk the strip looking for best priced boat trips for phi phi island (James Bond Island) and 4-Island Long Tail Boat tour, as recommended by our friends Alf and Marilyn, who sadly left Krabi just a few hours before our dramatic arrival (maybe planned?) Weather here is a so utterly beautiful. Clear blue skies, sunshine low humidity, by comparison, and Glorious green-cladded limestone cliffs rising from the sea. Shallow goldensand beaches, and a atmosphere of calm and chilled out tourists. Think we will enjoy our few days here.
