We flew into Phuket and made our way to good old Deevana Plaza hotel in Patong. I have stayed here previously and after getting a good deal we decided to split our time with 3 nights here and then head to Rawai Beach for the last 3 nights and a bit more chill time! During our three days at Deevana, we spent some time wandering around Patong, swimming, lazing and eating at local restaurants. We had come to do some research for our upcoming wedding in January wanting to research various options. Todd’s Mum was coming to the wedding in a wheelchair so our main focus was to make sure everything we did was wheelchair friendly. Sadly Jenny passed away from cancer this April and was too sick to make it to the wedding… so we ... read more

We set off on January 18thwith the kids in tow and stayed the night in Melbourne for an early morning flight the next day. We met up with one of our friends Chris (from our home town) and also my son Trent and his girlfriend Vic who flew in that morning from Adelaide at the airport. The trip over was pretty uneventful with a small stop in the Kuala Lumpur airport. The kids were amazing on the way over on the long flight, both desperate to be the one to sit next to Trent. They were made to swap halfway! We met up with my parents in the KL airport for a quick meal before Mum and Dad flew out to Bangkok for a few days and once we headed for Phuket. It was after midnight ... read more

The Hyatt Regency Phuket opened December 24th, 2013 on the secluded beachfront of Kamala Cove, overlooking the Andaman Sea in the South of Thailand. We were lucky to stay there when it was only 2 weeks old, and have the amazing experience of ‘launching’ a brand new property. For 10 days the hotel was only ours! We still don’t know what we liked the most… If it was the 72 meter long infinity pool or the beautifully equipped gym… Or maybe the amazing Nahm SPA clinging to the luscious jungle, where we’ve had one of the best Thai massages ever (ask for the therapist Sand). Or maybe it’s the incredibly friendly staff, flown in from all over Southeast Asia, led by Reuben who personally sees to all our needs. We will always remember its 2 great ... read more

Wednesday Hanging by the pool all day, we then went down the mountain at sunset, it was the biggest orange sun sinking into the ocean, I was hoping we'd make it to the bottom so I could capture it, but by the time we got to the beach it was gone. We sat and had wine and dinner and laughed as we watched to resorts performers. Drank too much wine, went to bed... Tomorrow, another lazy pool day. Thursday Having some stomach issues so I am happy to be poolside for the day, reading my book, taking in the incredible views and hot breezy weather. Today we relaxed by the infinity pool again , amazing views of the resort and the Andaman sea. The sea is so close in color to the sky that you cannot ... read more

Awake before 5am wandering around the room in the dark, coffee? Instant, no Bueno... Went out on our killer balcony, dark, afraid a viper (our friends saw one in the road in Chaing Mai) has climbed up and is waiting to attack... I gave Dave until almost 6am then I had to get up. We went up the mountain via foot, looking for the place we are to get breakfast and more importantly coffee, and are blown away by the views from here! There is an infinity pool that seems to empty over the cliff the building is built into, a huge open air deck with big queen sized lounging mats. There is a huge buffet, and awesome, non instant coffee. We have decided to park here for the day. Layed around like slugs today, lounging, ... read more

We both awoke with stomach distress... And we are going to the Phi Phi islands sweet Jesus let's hope it doesn't turn into the Poo Poo islands! We slammed xbreakfast and Imodium and Dramamine and cautiously head to the pier. We hop on the boat and I scan for a bathroom.... I can't confirm. Worry worry ,worry. What will they do with us if we have an attack of diarrhea? Make us dive off the boat? Possible scenarios go through my head, none good. I am happy to report that all medications did the trick and we were good to go... Or not go as the case may be. We drove across the water for about an hour until we reached a snorkeling site. We all jumped out, about 13 people, the water clear, warm, beautiful ... read more

Waiting for our ride to the airport, we saw our friends who were in the jungle! They said they did get lost and hiked and hiked up steep trails (um with elephants) and finally arrived at elephant heaven. Acres and acres of beautiful mountains and valleys of lush vegetation, perfect for elephant retirement. They said totally worth it. I was so glad to hear about their trip. As we prepared to leave,I can't help be so happy and proud that Dave took a week out of his vacation to take his gypsy wife half way around the world to scoop elephant poop, and prepare meals and work in the oppressive sun and go help out the Thai kids at the school along side me.aling with enjoying a vegetarian diet for the week (difficult for my carnivore ... read more
