DAY 1 - Arrival, Pool and 1st Night Out! (19th October)
Following the overnight bus we arrived in Krabi on 19th October and then waited to catch the boat to Phi Phi Islands. Whilst waiting for the boat I could not resist anoher bowl of museli and fruit though I think my stomach was in shock from the lack of eggs! Still the chickens can rest for a short while! It was so hot here...a different kind of heat to in the cities...more intense but I was very excited for a different place rather than another city for a while!
It looked beautiful as we headed there on the boat. The island was in the distance, the sea was green, fish were jumping out of the water around the boat and the sun was hot...so much so that I ended the boat ride with a little bit of a farmer tan.....still, plenty of time to get rid!
Following the boat ride we were greeted and taken to our guesthouse, Bamboo Mountan View. It was nice...our own little hut with a decent sized pool too. The hill up to the guesthouse was a bit of a killer though but at
Our Guesthouse
Ours is the front one on the left overlooking the pool! least that way I could kid myself I had done some exercise each day! Once our stuff was in the room it was straight in the pool to cool off and catch some rays. Nice to relax. Following that we had a wonder into the town (if thats what you can call it...small island with everything in walking distance....just the way I like it). Some serious price fixing going on here though.....I could tell my bartering skills would not bring much success here, especialy when I had just become a master at it! After sussing out the area, we had a late lunch and then headed back to get changed for the evening.
It was a pretty cool night out. Nothing too busy but busy enough to create an atmosphere. The drinks were a little pricy and our self concocted vodka/fanta mix before we went out helped! Cheeky staff in one place brought us a free shot with our cocktail...or so she said but they put an extra 10Baht each on the bill! Ok, so it meant it cost around 1 pence each but still.....I would have to keep my eye on the ball here! The final pub we
went in had some live Thai Boxing on....really good and even saw each guy get floored a couple of times! They even offered a free bucket of alcohol to anyone willing to get in the ring and fight. I kept it in mind in case we went over budget on any night....sure me and Nat could stage a fight....my guns were ready!!!
DAY 2 - Beach Action and Sunset (20th October)
It was pretty hot again when we woke on the second morning. Nat didn't feel so hot after the night before but we pushed through! Back on the eggs for breakfast too though this time in poached form! The orange juice didn't taste too good though...tasted like the vodka and orange from the night before!
Following breakfast we headed to the peak....a viewpoint from the top of the island! The steps and hill to the top were neverending and tough on the legs.....i'll have legs like popeye after spinach at this rate!! The view from the top was amazing and well worth the climb! You could see over the whole island. Turns out that the climb was also the Tsunami escape route from a few years
ago though I wouldn't have enjoyed that walk in a crisis situation! I don't envy the delivery guy who delivers to the shop at the top either!
Once we had taken in the views we made our way down and to the beach. The sea was clear and I had a little swim whilst Nat did a spot of snorkelling. I'm not sure she was sucessful though as there aren't many fish in water that isn't even knee deep and with no rocks! Funny to watch her though! After cooking for a bit on the beach (I could smell my flesh burning like a sunday roast), we headed for lunch! Despite ordering a Tuna Baguatte, I ended up with a Tuna Salad. Turns out that the menu was in English and the staff couldn't read it so had to try and guess what we pointed to. A salad was better for me though and looked nice so I didn't complain!
That evening we went out early to try and watch the sunset. It was a little cloudy but we still had hope! We found the mojito bar ( a cool little bar on the beach front( and took
a pew! The guys behind the bar were extending the menu so as long as we chose a new drink and let them photograph it first we got them half price! A win win situation as far as I was concerned! Following that we moved to the sunflower bar (next door). Everyone was so chilled out and could have definitely been because they were all smoking dope here. Sat on cushions by candlelight listening to Reggae music!! The people were so laid back our drinks took over 20 minutes to arrive...still they tasted good!
After cocktails and a not so sucessful sunset we headed back to the centre for food - Thai style chicken and cashew nuts...a treat for the tastebuds!! Weird though...the food never gets brought out together but luckily mine always seems to be first...I must look like I enjoy my food more!!
A tame night for us tonight and we headed back to the guesthouse. For the second night running the guy owner was sleeping in the entrance area next to the one and only computer! I think he was on 'Internet Watch' to make sure no one went on without paying! Either that or
he had argued with the wife!! Internet Jerk!!
