This is how we roll
Traveling on top of the ferries is a great way to see the sights. (Dustin)
Well, Koh Pha Ngan worked out pretty good for us after a few early hassles. On arriving we got a free taxi to a resort that obviously was looking for our business but somehow their prices weren't quite what they told us at the dock, prices we really weren't into paying. Thankfully even though our patience had run out for waiting for a room on the island, it seemed as though luck would have it that all their rooms filled up and we had to go somewhere else. Another free taxi by a young guy who was something like a travel agent, but he couldn't find anything for prices and quality we were looking for. So once again we opened the bible of the backpacker....The Lonely Planet....and looked for their recommendations. Well despite alot of grumbling about wanting to settle in and how "tired" we were, we managed to make our way to the Hua Laem Bungalows and once we got there and checked the place out everyone was in the mood for patience as being our main mode of choosing a place to stay. Those bungalows are awesome, they have good views, good size and they are a little
So fresh and so clean
Dustin caught in the shower bit out of town if you were ever worried about sleeping (Koh Pha ngan, the birthplace of the Full moon party). Also up the road, "The Natural Home" had great food so we were really happy about that. Too bad a storm came in and rained on us the first night, forced swena in off the deck after saying earlier that night that he was willing to "fight us for it." Now we just give him a hard time about that.

Hua Laem bungalows have been my favorite hostel so far. There is an incredible view of the coast line, and we had our own spacious porch. A storm followed us in though...Swena thought it would be neat to sleep on the couch outside, (when he went to bed it was nothing but fresh air and stars) however he would later regret this idea because in the middle of the night the rain came. Me and Dust had a huge sheltered bed inside...the rain sounded incredible as it pounded the roof, Matt lasted it awhile but eventually he was driven inside. The storm went on for three days, so it gave us time to read, watch movies,
and sleep...a lot. The town where we stayed in Ko Pha Ngan was backpacker paradise. Each restaurant showed a different movies each night...(they are all ready showing King Kong and Narnia here). Oh i found a place that showed the Simpsons non stop so it made me feel like i wasnt really to far from home. One cool thing i did in Ko Pha Ngan was hike up a hill to a tower that gave me a great birds I view. It reminded me of the tower i often climb at home. Ko Pha Ngan was my chance to be lazy and recoup from all that plagued me in Ko Samui.

Like the guys said, my first night in Koh Pha Ngan wasn't all that great. i slept out on the porch on a nice thatch couch with lots of pillows. i fell asleep to the peaceful sounds of waves breaking on the rocks. about three in the morning it started pouring. i woke up soaking wet and had to sleep on the floor indoors. the next four nights we all slept on one bed. quite the experience but it
Our home away from home
We stayed here for about five days. It gave us shelter from a storm, and a perfect vantage point to watch the crashing waves. worked out. i agree with kevin. this was my favorite place so far. the scenery was beautiful. where we stayed the coast was very rugged, more like B.C or WA. it was nice and quiet and we got to just sit around and relax. the restaurant we ate at was really nice as well. there were lots of europeans, mostly brittish, that would eat and talk with us every evening. talking with them made me realize for the hundreth time how different we are from the majority of people in the world. we got offered weed, cigarettes, alchohol and other things that we weren't interested in. we even had people telling us the best places to get "mushroom shakes". but people always respect us when we say no so it's not bad. we got to watch some movies, read a little and play with the two puppies that lived there. there were also some really great used book stores in town so i didn't get bored the whole time even though i mostly stayed indoors while kev and dust trekked all over the place. Bottle beach was nice too. we went over there after we left the southern part of
Breakfast with a view....
We had some great french toast here...
the island. we were supposed to be able to reach it by boat, since the roads are supposed to be impassable. but the people said the waves were to big so we ended up going by taxi anyways, actually, it was the back of a pickup truck. and the road were every bit as bad as the books said they were. there were a couple times when kev and i thought we might have to bail. dustin was fine since he was inside the cab. but we made it there all in one piece and it ended up being another great place to relax. well, that's about it. we didn't do a lot of exciting things but we did get a lot of sleep, which we were in need of. that about sums it up.
Talk to you all later,
Swena
