After completing our scuba open water certification, Ty and I headed over to Ko Pha Ngan, its only a 1.5 hr boat trip. Ko Pha Ngan is home to the full moon party and is a much bigger island. If you don't show up early enough before the full moon, you might get slim choice of rooms in Haad Rin, (choice spot for full moon partying). As was the case with me, Ty had booked his well in advance, and I only booked a day before, so I ended up with mainstip accomidations (still Haad Rin) and he got specatular beach front resort at Haad Rin for the same cost. Now to be fair I did get the Air-con. But for future refrence, its not worth booking ahead, unless your dealing direct with the hotel, I could have found a better deal, had I looked once I got there. Oh well.
So once at Ko Pha Ngan, we check into our respective places, and I rent a dirt bike and Ty got a scooter. We're off to explore.
Well first I want to say that there is lots of motorbike accidents on the island and it would seem that
one in every ten tourist are bandaged up from them. The locals call it the Ko Phangan Tatoo.
It went sideways right after we had hit the internet last, Ty and I headed back to where we are staying on the island. I am feeling quit confident on the motorbike and am cruising back along the road. Well this corner comes out of nowhere I manage to hit the back brakes, but I am still going a little too fast, the jungle doesn't look like a place I want to go! I lean the bike really hard to the side and give it some gas, I manage to pull though and make it around the corner. I look back to see Ty sliding across the pavement on this moped, SHAT!!. I quickly turn back to help him, and he's already back on his feet, moped in hands and eyes the size of the moon. We talk for a minute and determine he is ok, quite scrapped up but he didn't break anything. So needless to say we are both driving way slower now.
So we go back to his place and he cleans himself up. Now he wants
to drink, well I guess!! I would want to drink too. We spend the rest of the day going from bar to bar along the beach, watch some sand soccer matches and such. So after we eat supper we decide to go the beach (there's a party there every night) it’s actually quit a spectacle, the front of the beach is lined with booths selling liquor and its funny to walk by because they are all trying to sell you these buckets, and waving you down. From a far it almost looks like a giant wave. We decide to get one, that one turns into another, we are visiting with all these people from Canada, (who's back in Canada?? I swear that's why we have a labour shortage) So the second bucket turns into a third, and from there it goes very hazy. I wake up this morning to Ty banging on my door, what time is it? Almost noon ... wow! I did have most of my money, (the rest I probably spent) I was amazed that I still had my shoes, it kind of felt like I won. Couple of more days till the full moon party... should
Cruising the Island
I oppted for the bigger bike, it has gears and I don't like my legs in front of me on the scooters. be good one.
Over the next few days we explore more of the island while we're sober.
We drove all over the island checking out elephants, waterfalls and some amazing beaches, but the real story is on Koh Pha Ngan ......
As most would have guessed.... Partying really hard? (Well there really is no descriptive word that would do this justice) Nights have been filled with beers and buckets (more buckets than beer), flaming jump rope, fire dancing, table dancing, just dancing, cobra shows, pool parties and some solid drunkeness, I've watched the sun come up for the last three nights in a row, tonight's the main event .. FULL MOON PARTY... I really don't know what else could happen, that hasn't in the previous couple of nights. After about 3am, the dancing really starts.... I am ashamed and embarrassed but I was caught dancing (OK Grinding) with a lady boy last night (s/he was hot)....and I’ll bet you wouldn’t know either!!, a local girl told my friend Ty who told me, THANK YOU TY!!! We've been looking out for each other.
On a side note, I have become way more adventurous with my food
Overlooking Haad Rin
The roads are very hilly and windy, and to make it a little bit more tricky, there is often lots of sand on the road too. Advice... Never, Never hit your front brake, unless you have too. choices. I have tried Humas with Falaful, Cury (all types), Pad Thai, and all sorts of other Thai food, I actually really like it. I have been ordering something I have never had each meal. Before that I was starving.
We have met tons of other tourist, all very cool. Last night we seen a cobra show, AMAZING, I also held this 8 foot Python, a little creepy.
I figured I would catch up with the events of late .. as tonight I expect to have more stories to tell, I am bringing my camera tonight, I hope I don't loose it. So far I have been really good at keeping my belongings in tack.
P.S Haven't fell of a table yet ... I do make sure their sturdy after the last incident.
