The story goes a little like this: I went from high school into post secondary, then straight to a career, which looked like for the rest of my life. So after 7 years in a career job “accounting” I was able to take a real trip, not one of those two week stays in a resort, but an actual backpack trip. I went to South America for 6 weeks, my then girlfriend and I went from Bolivia through Peru, and then up into Ecuador. That’s when I was bitten, they call it the travel bug, and as far as I know you can’t get a vaccination for it before you leave. It’s one of those risks you take. Being bitten by this bug can cause some serious side effects, for example:
The list of places to see and things to do expands indefinitely.
The only possessions that matter to you will fit into your backpack.
So as we have seen once bitten, a person can go on living with the side effects, keep working and eventually mold back into a normal life. Well I almost did that, I managed to work for another year, I was actually saving up to buy a house, and then by chance I had another opportunity to travel, one month off between projects. So still showing some side effects from before, I booked a trip to Thailand, I hadn’t been there before, and have heard amazing things. I try and go places where I can manage on minimal money. So I spent the month of May in Thailand, and guess what, was bitten once again by the travel bug, well this one must have been the queen, cause once I returned to Canada, I resigned from my job “which was a great job”, took my house savings and decided to travel through all of South East Asia. Can’t fight the bug!!
