Well Ko Pha Ngan was exactly how I remember it being. Complete and utter madness!!! The first night me and Kim were very sensible - we'd been on a bus or boat for about 15 hours, so we collapsed into bed early. However the next day the partying started!!!
It started at about 6-7pm - we got a Samsong bucket (80 percent proof rum, with redbull and coke) and sat outside our little bungalow drinking. The two guys next door, Nick and Mark came over and sat and chatted to us for a bit before they headed out for food. By the time they got back we were on our second bucket and feeling very merry indeed!!! There was a pool party that night at Coral Bungalows, but most people don't get to the parties until late, so we headed to the beach to see what was going on. Well it was complete madness on the beach!! Everyone seemed to be drinking, dancing etc and the Thai guys were giving out free drinks to anyone that could hit a football through a hole. I had a go and they were lovely and let me kick it from right next to
the hole, so hurray I had a free vodka redbull, result!!
It all seemed to go downhill from there. Nick and Mark introduced us to two really cool girls from Denmark called Ida and Tina - they were such great fun!! I think I spent most of the night dancing with them (I say think as the more I drank, the more blurred my memory is!!). At one point the Thai guys got out a giant skipping rope and set it on fire anyone brave enough (or drunk enough) started skipping. It was hilarious!! I didn't have a go - I don't think I'll ever be drunk enough to do that!! The drunker I got, the more outrageous my dancing got and I think Kim has photos of me in all sorts of positions!!! Later on that night, me Nick, Mark and Kim decided to head to the Coral Bungalows pool party, which was cool. It was a wicked night!!
The next day I woke up hungover and realised that my digital camera had been stolen from my bag while I was on the beach (at least I think thats where it must have gone missing). I was
gutted, I'd already had one camera break earlier on in the trip, so now I'd have to buy yet another camera. I really liked that camera too - it took great photos!!
The next night (8th December) was kind of my birthday night, as at midnight I would turn 29, yay!!! So of course this meant I had to go out and get drunk all over again. I felt a bit ill this time - my hangover lasted all day, so the first whisky bucket didn't go down too well. Nick and Mark got some money off everyone and bought me a birthday drink, however it was a double shot of Sambuka. Just the sight of that, when I had a hangover was enough to make me puke, but somehow I managed to down it. An hour later though I was being sick (nice!!). However once I had been sick I felt so much better and after a bit of dancing, somehow me and Nick were downing Yeiger bombs (some redbull with a shot glass with Yeigermeister dropped in it!!). Nick is a completely hardcore drinker - it was hard for me to keep up, but you know me,
I gave it my best shot (excuse the pun)!! By the end of the night I was dancing on the bar with the Danish girls, then dancing in the sea. Just generally dancing and causing choas everywhere. I think I finally left the beach just as the sun was coming up. It was an amazing night!!! The best night of my trip so far!! A brilliant birthday celebration.
We had been told that Ricky Hatton's fight was on at 8am the next day, so Kim and Nick headed off to see the fight (they basically just didn't go to bed) while I slept. About 30 mins later Nick came back and banged on my door telling me it wasn't until about 9-10am, so after an hour or so's sleep I got up and went to watch the match. In the end the match didn't start til 11.20 (damn I could have had much more sleep!!), but the atmosphere in the pub was really good (it was an English pub), so I didn't mind only getting an hours sleep. The fight was brilliant, but I was gutted to see him lose. Once it was over rather than the sensible option
of going to bed, we all decided to head to the beach and spend the day there. I'd already had some beers while watching the match, so I got some Strongbow to carry on the party. I don't know how, but I managed to stay awake most of the day! Later that day though I realised that I'd lost my bank card!! I must have been so out of it I left it in the cash machine. What a nightmare eh, so I had to ring England and cancel my card.
That evening was the Black Moon Party, so even though I was feeling hungover and a bit depressed about losing my card I had to go out again. I was so tired at this point!! I tried drinking but I was just sick - I think I ended up being sick about 3 times that night. I was gutted, this was the night I'd been looking forward to most and I was ill for it. I went home for about 30 mins, but then decided I didn't want to miss the party so I drank a couple of Redbulls and met up with Mark, Nick and the 2 Danish
girls and headed off to the Black Moon Party. I thought the party was quite good, but Nick and Mark weren't impressed. Me and the Danish girls got some UV flowers painted on us and had a bit of a dance around, but not many people were dancing, which is a shame. The next day I was travelling to Bangkok so I wanted to get some sleep, so I headed home around 4-5am. I think the guys and Danish girls got in a lot later though!!
The journey to Bangkok was pretty uneventful - I spent most of it sleeping, but when I reached Bangkok I realised that I'd had $200 stolen!! How many things can go wrong in just 4 days eh!! At this point I just started crying, I'd managed to stay pretty happy so far, despite everything going wrong, but without a credit card or overdraft, I was pretty worried how I'd manage to stay out for so long. Especially since I'd just spent 75quid on a new digital camera - I should have just got a disposable one or something. Oh well, my solution was the drown my sorrows!! Kim was feeling pretty shattered and wanted
an early night, but I saw Mark and Nick on the Khao San Road, so stayed out drinking with them. Mark couldn't keep up the pace and fell asleep in some of the pubs (bless), but Nick can definitely drink me under the table!! After many tequilla shots, I realised it was about 5am and my flight was at 7am, so I hurried to the airport and made it there in time. I checked in and went and sat in the departure gate. Unfortunately I fell asleep and missed the flight!!! I ended up having to pay for a new flight two hours later!!
So there you go, the unluckiest four days of my life. But also probably the most fun four days of my life!!! All you guys & girls from Ko Pha Ngan, I miss you!!!!
