Wow, we have just realised that this is already our blog number 101! But do not worry, we will not stop writing some more as we have planned already interesting trips in the future. But let's come back to our short trip to Malaysia/Thailand.

Our next island on our "self organised" island hopping tour was Koh Lipe. From Koh Bulon we took a speedboat which brought us to the shores of Koh Lipe in 2 hours. We arrived at Pattaya beach and were really shocked by the crowded beach and the noise. Coming from the peaceful island of Koh Bulon with only few tourists and great nature, this was too much for us. Quickly we took our backpacks and walked away from the beach to a hostel which was recommended to us by a lot of travellers: Jack's Jungle Lodge . We had no reservation, like always, and were afraid of having to stay at one of the busy beach places. But we were lucky. Jack and his wife greeted us like old friends and we even could chose between 2 rooms. We took the cheaper option, a simple bamboo hut. This accomodation was the coolest one we ever had in Thailand. The owners were extremely welcoming and friendly. They gave us free water and mosquito coils whenever we wanted. Well, and our hut was pretty cool, too. It had an open bathroom and each night when we took a (cold) shower there were frogs around our feet. They were really funny guys and we felt sorry for them when we used some shampoo - poor frogs. But somehow they did not care, they seemed to enjoy the daily shower. The whole lodge is tucked away in the last bit of rainforest on the island and at night we could not only hear the froggy concert but although had all the other jungly noises around us. For us, it was the best option to stay on the island. A relaxed place with a little bit of a hide away feeling. The island is really small. You can easily walk from one beach to another within a few minutes. We liked the relaxed sunset beach best as it was not so crowded with tourists. Anyway, the beaches are quite nice. For one day we were just hanging around the beaches, walked through the island and enjoyed a wonderful sunset. Very interesting was the visit to the small temple just around the corner of our lodge. A single monk is taking care of the temple, offers the visitors free water and has a huge bunch of dogs around him. Well, the dogs..... There is an endless numder of dogs on Koh Lipe. They are peaceful. The funny thing is: it is just one kind of dog, let's say in a variation of 3 colours (some of them with mixed colour). Well, there must have been 2 dogs in the beginning - and now, they are all (to put it in local words): same same ;-).

There is no snorkelling right from the beach (although some guidbooks say so). The coral is dead and there is not a lot to see. Therefore, the next day we went on a snorkelling trip. It was the best one we ever made. With only 6 people and a lovely guide with his wife we went to 5 different snorkelling spots in the Tarutao National Parc area: Ko Sakai, Ko Bulo, Ko Hin Song, Ko Butang and the Monkey Beach. All spots were really different we we saw lots of colourful fish, great hard and soft coral in thousand colours, nudibranches, stingrays.... Markus even saw a reef shark (which I unfortunately missed). For lunch we hit a small beach on an isolated island. It was just our small group and no-one else. What a wonderful time! Well, Koh Lipe as an island itself would not be our favourite choice. It must have been a great little island in the past but tourism has left too many marks. It seems to have the same development like Koh Phi Phi. But it is a good place for making daytrips in the wonderful Tarutao National Parc. Just bring enough cash with you. Koh Lipe is not cheap and there is no ATM on the island! This was our time on island number 2 on our trip. The next island, a much bigger one was waiting for us.

DEUTSCH: Huch, soeben haben wir festgestellt, dass dies schon unser Blog Nummer 101 ist. Eine stolze Zahl. Aber keine Angst, wir hören nicht so schnell damit auf. Schliesslich haben wir noch einige Trips im Hinterkopf. Nun aber zurück zu unserem Malaysia/Thailand Urlaub.

Unsere nächste Insel, auf die wir hüpften, war Koh Lipe. Von Koh Bulon aus nahmen wir ein Schnellboot, dass uns in nur 2 Stunden nach Koh Lipe brachte. Wir kamen direkt an der Pattaya Beach an und zack - da war der Schock. Wenn man gerade von der ruhigen Insel Koh Bulon mit seiner Natur und Einsamkeit kommt, da überfordert einen der Massentourismus auf Koh Lipe dann doch ziemlich. Schnell schnappten wir uns unsere Rucksäcke und liefen in Richtung des Zentrums der Insel, wo wir eine von einigen Reisenden empfohlene Lodge ansteuerten: Jack's Jungle Lodge . Wie immer hatten wir nichts reserviert (so bleibt man flexible und kann auch wieder mal gehen oder länger bleiben, je nachdem, wie es einem gefällt), von daher befürchteten wir, in eine laute Unterkunft an den Strand gehen zu müssen. Aber wir hatten richtig Glück. JAck und seine unglaublich liebe Frau begrüssten uns wie alte Freunde. Wir konnten sogar zwischen 2 Bungalows wählen. Wir entschieden uns für die günstiger Bamboo-Hütte. Das war so ziemlich die coolste Unterkunft, die wir je in Thailand hatten. Die Besitzer waren so unglaublich freundlich. Wir bekamen Wasser und Mosquito-Coils wann immer wie es brauchten. Ja, und unsere Hütte war auch prima. Das Bett war gemütlich (auch wenn es bei dem heftigen Regen manchmal ganz leicht reintropfte in die Hütte) und wir hatten ein offenes Bad im Dschungel. So hüpften uns jeden Abend, wenn wir duschten, kleine Frösch eum die Füsse herum. Das waren richtig lustige Gesellen und es tat uns richtig leid, Shampoo zu benutzen - die armen Fröschchen. Aber das schien denen egal zu sein, die genossen die tägliche Dusche wie wir auch. Die ganze Lodge war in dem letzten Stück Dschungel auf der Insel angelegt und nachts hörten wir nicht nur ein ausgeprägtes Froschkonzert sondern auch sonst herrlichen Dschungel-Lärm. Besser kann man auf dieser Insel unserer Meinung nach nicht wohnen. Ein entspannter Ort und eine versteckte Oase. Die Insel selbst ist klein. Es gibt 3 Strände, die man locker in wenigen Minuten zu Fuss erreichen kann. Am liebsten mochten wir die Sunset Beach, auf der nur wenige Touristen waren und wo es schöne Sonnenuntergänge zu sehen gab. Die Strände insgesamt sind eigentlich ganz schön. Für einen Tag genossen wir lediglich das Strandleben - und zugegeben auch Internetzugang, da wir ein wenig arbeiten mussten. Sehr interessant war auch der Besuch des kleinen Tempels um die Ecke von unserer Lodge. Diese wird von einem einsamen Mönch gehütet, der kostenloses Wasser an Besucher verteilt und eine Unmenge an Hunden hat. Jaja, die Hunde..... Es gibt unendlich viele davon auf Koh Lipe. Sie sind eigentlich sehr friedlich. Das Lustige ist nur:es gibt nur 1 Sorte von Hund in ungefähr 3 Farbvarianten (ein paar sind noch unterschiedlich gemustert). Tja, da waren wohl am Anfang mal 2 gleiche Hunde - und jetzt sind sie alle, sagen wir mal: same same ;-).

Obwohl es in der Reiseführern steht, kann man direkt auf Koh Lipe vom Strand aus eigentlich nicht Schnorcheln - also man kann, aber ausser Quallen sieht man nicht viel. Auch hier ist das Riff tot. Deshalb machten wir einen Schnorchelausflug in den Tarutao National Park. Und das war das Allerbeste, was wir machen konnten. Mit nur 6 Personen und einem superlieben Führer und seiner Frau gingen wir in 5 Schnorchelgebiete im Tarutao National Park area: Ko Sakai, Ko Bulo, Ko Hin Song, Ko Butang and the Monkey Beach. Alle Orte waren wirklich unterschiedlich mit tollen Riffs, vielen bunten Fischen, harten und weichen Korallen in allen Farben, Seeigeln und vielem mehr. MArkus sah sogar einen kleinen Riffhai! Auf einer einsamen Insel machten wir Mittagspause. Wir waren dort ganz alleine - echtes Robinson-Feeling. War das ein genialer Tag! Also, Koh Lipe als solche ist nicht unbedingt unsere Insel erster Wahl. Die Insel muss früher mal ein Paradies gewesen sein, aber sie scheint eine ähnliche Entwicklung zu nehmen wie Koh Phi Phi. Aber sie ist immer noch ein genialer Ausgangsort für den traumhaft schönen Tarutao National Park. Man muss aber genug Geld mit nach Ko Lipe bringen! Die Insel ist nicht ganz günstig und es gibt keinen ATM! Dies war also nun unsere Insel Nummer 2. Die nächste folgt schon bald. Es wird eine deutlich grössere sein.
