Back To Koh Lanta
On our way back to Lanta, I got chatting to some South African ladies who were sharing our minibus, and were heading to lanta for just one night away from their travel buddies. We chatted about Oasis Sunset and suggested they come for a drink...which they did, and so our first night back on lanta saw us drinking cocktails with our new friends, and Graeme's mum Ann.
It was soon to be the grand opening party, and once again we lent a hand with preparations for bands, fire shows, music etc Graeme made it back from his job on the oil rigs with only a day to spare...just enough time to help with the outside lighting. Ae's family turned up en mass from their village up north, and we enjoyed several very Thai meals with them. Sadly our Thai isn't quite conversational level (yet), so we made do with smiles and hand gestures and pigeon Thai.
Party animals that they are, Steve and Julia also came over to help us celebrate. Once again we just 'found' them coming down the street one afternoon. Finally blessed with good weather, we rented motorbikes and snuck away from
the chaotic restaurant (too many cooks spoil the broth) to explore the island.
We discovered gorgeous, deserted beaches with super soft white sand, elephants, and some hairy mud roads! One of our best finds was a beach bar and bungalow right at the southern tip of the island in the national park...there was a hut on stilts in the sea (honeymoon suite), boats converted into bungalows, tables, and sun loungers Tree houses, and all manner of crazy plastic animals, truly inspirational !!!!!
Guy's work on the menu had not gone unnoticed, and he was approached by Ae's landlord to help with a brochure for his newly completed bungalows (next to Oasis Sunset), Guy took photos and wrote text etc , and as a thank you, Pong let us be the first people to try his new luxury bungalow for the night....we couldn't believe our luck! We decided to sleep there the night of the party.
With make up on, buffet laid and Bands ready to go the party got off to a great start. Slowly people made their way to the beach in time to enjoy the sunset, and before long every table was full and Uncle was
sent to bring more chairs for the beach. There were two bands, fire shows and great music mixed by Graeme's DJ cousin, the atmosphere was brilliant, and we partied long and hard into the night. Old friends from Tonsai, now living on Lanta came along, and new friends were made. A fabulous evening indeed....made all the better by spending the night in Pong's bungalow.
The next morning wasn't quite so fun, as headaches affected all of us!!!!
We met up with old Tonsai friends Chris and Gak for a day of recovery and Guy had to relieve him of a 10mm lens he was no longer using, This cheered Guy up no end and he was soon snapping away completely forgetting his thumping head.
Steve and Julia returned to the haven of TonSai giving us a few days with Graeme, Ae and the boys before it was time for us too to head back to the quiet waters on TonSai bay......
