TonSai via Krabi
Leaving Ko Lanta, Ae asked us for a little help with the final mass printing of the menus, business cards, advertising posters and even help with purchasing a cash register for Oasis Sunset.
We spent the entire afternoon and well into next morning finalizing the design and layout, this meant staying overnight in in Krabi. We spent the evening eating various noodle soups from street vendors, that without Ae I don't think we would be able to order again. Pork balls, bits, spices, flat noodles, thin noodles, the tiny wooden cart had it all. Yummy.
Guy, in an attempt to satisfy his craving for fast food had a KFC burger. Again this proved to be his undoing and he spent the night running backwards and forwards to the the toilet. He has vowed that if he ever meets the Colonel he is going to @*^#@!!?@!#@!!! etc.
Finally we boarded an afternoon longtail boat and made it back to our beloved TonSai. We were greeted like old friends by some of the locals whom we'd befriended on the last trip. Dee Dee even gave me a massive bear hug !! She is the beach's best masseuse .
An hour of traditional Thai massage, being contorted into a million shapes that even a yoga guru would find challenging, absolute heaven.
Getting closer to High season, the beach is beginning to fill with more and more climbers, sunbathers and party goers, and bungalow prices go up accordingly...as always Guy will bargain hard and we got a great jungle bungalow for off season price!
Steve and Julia arrived a few days later and in true to form, bumped into us by shear chance. (Again!)
The sea was beginning to clear and calm down now that the monsoon season is drawing to an end. Together we hired Kayaks and explored the sea caves, secluded beaches and limestone sea stacks that surround Krabi. It was Julia's first sea kayak experience, and twinned with Steve (apparently a pro!) made an awesome paddler..though she did admit afterwards that some of the waves were a bit unnerving...nothing that a post paddle Chang couldn't remedy!.
We spent many Chang fueled evenings with Dub at the Back Yard, Tobi at the Viking Bar and sunsets at Freedom Bar. One particular night after only a couple of G&Ts, my legs decided not to respond to their instruction
to 'walk home', and rather than the London Landlord's reaction of 'get her out of here', I was treated like a princess...the barman Dub gave me a head massage, cold water and ice, and allowed me to lie down in his bar for as long as i needed..what a great bloke (Guy, Steve, and Julia, however continue to poke fun at me til this day)
The full moon party in true Tonsai style was a small and intimate event, Fireshows, DJ's, BBQ on the beach and dancing late into the night. We were even treated to a complete silver circle surrounding the moon all night, an amazing sight to behold. Late night swims in the phosphorescent sea was also a special end to some evenings, making the whole experience truly magical.
Waking to the Gibbons and Howler Monkeys singing to each other in the mornings across the cliffs is truly one of natures miracles. This they did every morning with vigor. Using Steve and Julia as an excuse we also went on long walks to explore the various beaches surrounding Ton Sai, Railay East and West, Pranang, and a few others without name, arriving back on the beach in time
to watch the sunsets and evening rockclimbers.
Knowing that the Opening of Oasis Sunset on Ko Lanta was imminent we left Steve and Julia to fight the monitor lizards and prepared to head back to Lanta for the grand opening........
