Pavillion Bungalows in Koh Lanta
...my own little private hideaway ...or how are you? (to those of you who don't speak Thai!!). Thanks again for your happy (and often crazy) messages. Please keep them coming as they really do cheer me up whenever I'm feeling a little low. I was going to add an entry a few days ago but I wanted to wait until I had lots of photos before updating it. Unfortunately, after tinkering with my camera and being a bit girly, I accidentally managed to wipe all of the photos and video clips I had taken which means that everything prior to yesterday is gone. Boo Hoo!! So all I can show you are some photos of Koh Lanta, in Krabi and Kata Beach, Phuket which is where I am today.
My third stop after leaving Cambodia was Patong in Phuket (aka ladyboy capital of the world). It's the most popular resort in Phuket mainly owing to the fact that there are a zillion bars, restaurant and clubs and a host of gentlemens clubs down every street. It's even more buzzy then Bangkok which I didn't think possible. There's not really a huge backpacker scene there because the resort is mainly geared towards middle aged western men
Koh Lanta beach by day
It's all a bit Castaway....."WILSON"!! looking for some round the clock lovin' and groups of blokes and couples who are more intrigued than anything else. One night I stumbled into one of the huge bars along Thanon Bangla (Bangla Road) only to realise that it was actually a pulling joint full of prossies and ladymen. Someone(thing) called Emma befriended me but I left shortly after she looked me up and down, got a little bit too close and said that business had been a little quiet tonight but was suddenly looking better now!! Yikes!! The Banana Club on the beach front was a great place to meet people and along with various others, I met a group of 4 guys from Melbourne who were really sweet and looked after me. We went to a number of bars along the strip and I even had some photos of them pole dancing for you but they were lost when I messed the camera up. :-(( Didn't really do much sight seeing but I did manage some jet skiing on the last day. i might muster the courage to try parascending now I'm in Kata because I chickened out before.
There is so much to see and
do in Thailand that it's crazy just to stay in one place so last week, I jumped on a ferry and headed over to Phi Phi to check it out. I didn't really know what to expect as I'd heard so many mixed reviews of the place but I thought i should have a look anyway. The island is still very beautiful and most of the commercial areas are virtually back to normal but every now and then you catch a glimpse of the huge amount of devastation that was caused by the Tsunami and it's horrible. I got chatting to a couple of people who were on the island when it hit and they are so lucky to be alive. One guy, a diving instructor was out diving at the time but the wave still picked him up and threw him ashore. He's had about 10 ops on his knee already but he's been told he will have a permanent limp and cannot instruct anymore. the other was a girl who, if she had made it up in time for work would have definitely died as her shop was on the beach. Fortunately, her alarm didn't go off when
Kata Bay
...looking right it should have. Life is just one big chance isn't it??
The nightlife in Phi Phi is the best I have seen in Thailand so far. It's backpackers paradise and the bars are really romantic and funky and they play great music. Most of them put on free fire shows and party games each night and there are loads of free buckets of that drink I was telling you about if you win. Sadly though, I did not participate in the 69-position fruit-eating contest so no buckets for me! I did go on a boat trip to see some of the many islands around phi phi which are beautiful...they even take you to see Maya Bay which is where the film "The Beach" was filmed......but Leo wasn't there though.
After Phi Phi, i went by ferry to Koh Lanta which is very near to Krabi. It's very lush and the sunsets are amazing. It's also definitely more of a tourist free zone so I was able to wind down a bit more...well just enough to give me the energy I need to get going again tonight now I'm back in Phuket!! Hooray!!
No complaints so far as I'm
Kata Bay
...looking left still havin fun. it's been great and i've met a whole host of people and seen a variety of places. I plan to spend the next 3 nights in Kata then move on to Karon which is slightly further up the bay then on the 14th, I'm flying to Koh Samui ready to hit the FULL MOON party in Koh Pha Ngan on the 16th.
Will add another entry when I get to Koh Samui around the 14th/15th.
Hope you are all well and the weather and dark nights/mornings aren't getting to you too much. Remember, there is always a free bed out here if anyone wants to come and join me. The beaches are amazing and it's HOT HOT HOT!!!
Take care everyone and will try to catch up with you all soon.
Lots of love and hugs
Naomi
