Jungle Trekking
MUD, MUD, MUD!!! When we arrived back on the mainland we followed the flow of the crowd and made our way to the car park, where everyone else got on buses and drove away leaving us standing there by ourselves. Within a short time it was like a ghost town, although a coupl people came and asked where we were heading and quoted 50 ponds to give us a lift. As we had a ticket saying we were getting picked up we decided to wait, and wait, and wait. A little later, a clapped out land rover and out stepped a chap looking like he had been living in the jungle for the most part of his life. His role to take us to the national park! Really nice chap.. Little broken English!
Several hours later we arrived at our first activity of the day - elephant trekking. We had epected to be on an elephant and another one carrying our bags while we trekked to our accomodation. Well it wasn't quite what we got but, we did wonder through the jungle whilst the elephant continually stopped for food and chose where to go! Still it was cool of a little bumpy!!! Especially
More Mud
Who's controlling who?? when the elephant lost its footing and nearly sent us into 2 foot of dirty jungle water!!! Thankfully the elephant was not hurt and we came out with just a couple of bruises which was better than a soaking and covered in leeches!!
After the elephant ride we purchased a basket of fruit to feed the elephant. This was really cool as the elephant obviously knew which fruit it liked. It would drop the fruit it didn't want and wait until you gave it the one it wanted. It was very funny. Also manged to get covered in elephant slobber and mud from the freindly goat that wanted my chocolate!!
Next on the agenda was lunch. We were driven to where we would be spending the night. It was a little mud hut camp with about 10 rooms. From the outside we were a little nervous, after some of the accomodation we had experienced we had no idea what to expect. But the rooms were amazing and very unique. The only thing missing was a door on the bathroom - thank god I bought that sarong in Koh Pagnan!!!!
Settled in we made our way back for
WOW
It's Jungle Amazing lunch - we expected a sandwich or something as all food was included in the price of the tour. Instead we got a banquet - enough to feed 6 people at least so we waited for the rest of the people to arrive, only to be told it was all for us!!! Bliss!! We got stuck in and it was superb food. I was already looking forward to dinner!
After lunch we were told we would be dropped off up the river and would canoe back to the camp. So again we reckoned this would be a bit of a laugh. Again slightly disappointed when we found out we wouldn't be paddling but someone else would be doing that. Still it was a bit of fun especially when the tropical rain started again!! I reckon we could have swam along the river and been drier!!!
After this we had time to relax before dinner which certainly wasn't disappointing. Again an amazing spread and we discovered it was just the two of us staying in the camp. The fireflies that were everywhere and the sound of all the insects and frogs certainly made the whole experience very different to
WOW
It\'s Jungle Amazing anything else we have done so far.
The second day was supposed to be trekking on foot but due to the wet weather we had to settle for a jeep safari - another disappointment!!! Didn't really go off a stone road and didn't really see much either.
All in all it wasn't what we expected but we had a really good time. The scenery was stunning as you will see in the photos!!
