Scary sausages
Today was a rest day, thankfully. Of course we were awake and perky by 7am, out for breakfast at 8.30 and the street was practically deserted, most businesses not open. We found one place for breakfast on the other side of the main road and had to do the Death Dash again, not as bad as it is at night. American breakfast 150b, great coffee and fruit juice, ok scrambled eggs and the scariest sausages EVER! Not like the photo in the menu, these were bright yellow hotdoggy things, like a sort of dog's toy. I think it was chicken rather than pork but who knows what bit of the chicken. Feet and beaks, probably! Wifi was good and the best thing was that we had a great view of the main road and could do public bus research. We think we know where to wait in the morning, the guy at the hotel said the bus always stops (the time is a bit flexible) but we saw no evidence of this. One went past as we were waiting to cross the road, it said Phuket Surat Thani on the side, which is the right one, he kinda honked at us

Mats for mozzie machine
so we are fairly confident that we can flag it down! In the supermarket we were super happy to find mats for out mozzie machines, as we nearly ran out. I mimed the whole thing several times in shops in other places but they had no idea what I was going on about! They seem to have ones with a liquid in now instead.

We walked down to the beach, along the beach and ended up in front of the same resort as 2 days ago. There was a line of posts sort of sticking up a little bit out of the sand, with a flattish bit behind. I thought probably this marked the extent of the resort. Sure enough, a German guy thought he'd assume the role of beach police and said that was where the guests played pétanque, so we huffed and moved. when the tide is up there is actually very little beach to lie on, between the resorts and the sea. It's not the best place to come, but reviews said it was the best beach on this bit of the coast. Not an obvious choice for a fortnight's holiday, we thought, but plenty of people seem to think otherwise! Sam found some hermit crabs, one had outgrown his house and was trying to evict another from his shell, they were locked together in a tussle (see pic). It went on for ages, until the one being attacked started to kind of foam, I felt sorry for it and split them up. Find a shell of your own, buster!

The clouds gathered, as forecast, so we went for lunch, nice place called Happy Bungalows, solid looking roof in case it rained. A songthaew rolled up with a monk in the back, complete with Buddha, like a mobile shrine. Take a picture, said Sam! I kind of sneakily took one, hoping no one would notice, but his entourage did. The monk waved his little bundle of sticks at us and looked serene enough. There was a minder with him, and the guy from the restaurant also, they kind of made come here gestures, didn't look very happy, waved these friendship bracelets at us. We were eating our lunch and wouldn't go out. Sort of looked at him puzzled, no idea what you mean, mate, sorry for the photo but we aren't buying! Eventually they trundled

Monk in his monkmobile
off to the shop next door. Same procedure, locals come out for a blessing, then a couple of tourists. He hit them about the face and shoulders with the sticks and flicked water at them. They bought a bracelet and trotted off happy!

Really needed to rain, the air was very close and humid. A few spots only. Now off for drinks......
