All Together
Clockwise around table: Cat, Kate (from Perhentian's), Kate (Jack's Girlfriend), Ben, Emily, Sara, Jack, Me, Eddie and Amy. Before I continue with this blog, I should just point out to all you regular readers (if there are any other than mum and dad) that each blog I publish is generally about two weeks behind my actual location and activities. People who have maybe heard about my recent trip to the hospital have been saying that they are reading the blog but not hearing of such an incident. Well, this the reason. I generally publish a blog a week or two after what I'm writing about has taken place and it takes a bit of time to upload photos etc. So stay tuned as my next two eagerly anticipated (...!?!) blogs, from the full moon party and my hospital experience are coming shortly.
Now, back to blogging........ It was a long journey from the Cameron Highlands back to Thailand and I really cannot be bothered to go into that now. After arriving in Ao Nang, Ben and I checked into a guest house, the same one I'd used last time I was there and we then went for a strole along the beach front. Whilst walking along we randomly bumped into Jacks girlfriend, Katie and her friend Amy, who had
Ao Nang
Sara with a monkey come down from the North of Thailand. After catching up over a drink Ben and I went to use the internet and on our way met up with Kate, Cat, Emily and Sara from the Perhentian Islands, who happened to of checked into the same guest house as us. After arranging to meet for dinner, Ben and I met up again with Katie and Amy to get a massage.....yes, it's a hard life this traveling..........and then, on our way back, we bumped into Jack, who had picked up a friend at the airport; Ed. So now there was ten of us; Me, Jack, Ben, Ed, Katie (Jack's gf), Amy, Kate (from the Perhentian Islands), Emily, Cat and Sara, a whole crew of ten, so after the introductions we went for a meal and drinks.
The following day after breakfast we all headed over to Railay beach. The weather wasn't so good and the evening was spent playing cards under cover. The girls left early the next day to avoid being stuck in the rain again with little to do, but us guys stayed behind and enjoyed the beaches as the weather actually improved. Last time I was on Railay I'd
Ao Nang
Night out in Ao Nang, girls chatting about whatever it is they talk about while guys play pool. heard about a path you could take that leads to a lagoon, but I didn't have the chance to do it, so now that I was back I was able to persuade Ben, Jack and Eddy to go and check it out before heading to Pra Nang beach.
A bit like mine and Ben's little excursion in the kiak back on the Perhentian Islands, this idea was soon exposed for what it was.................a mistake. The
'trek' I had been warned was difficult, but it didn't look too bad from the beginning, steep path up a hill, but well trodden with lots of tree branches to hold onto and even a rope tied up for support........actually, this rope was probably the first indication that this wasn't a good idea and it wasn't going to be the
'trek' we thought it was. Anyway, we set off, seeing some monkeys on the way up and eventually reaching, what we thought, was our destination.......we were actually a lot less than halfway there. After getting to the top of the climb we then had to climb down what can best be described as a mud slide on the other side, by now we'd excepted the
Ao Nang
Shooting some pool while the girls natter. fact that we were going to get fairly muddy. Slipping and sliding we made it back down the other side and were rewarded, momentarily, before the novelty wore off and we realised there was further to go, by an impressive tree, reaching up out of the
ditch we'd ended up in. However, we walked a bit further and got a glimpse of some water, the lagoon was in sight. To make it the last stretch and actually get to the lagoon required maneuvering what can only really be described as some sort of advanced level rock climbing/pot holing raveen. Oh, but the trusty ropes were provided. All this really meant to me was that, at some stage somebody (some nutter) had done this climb before there was any kind of path and bought rope with him, for the benefit of any future nutters. Anyway, Ben and myself we adamant that having come this far we were gonna get to the lagoon, Jack and Eddy, however, were adamant that they valued their lives more than the chance to see some lagoon, cut their loses and headed back (pussies). So I led the way for the last couple of climbs, getting caked
Ao Nang
.........and Jack and Katie play with the chalk dust. in mud, slipping around, but never-the-less, finally making it to our destination...... what we had come for.......the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow..........the lagoon................................................the F@!king swamp!
The water in the lagoon, that required wading through mud to get to, couldn't of been more than knee deep at best. What a disappointment. The highlight was probably the mud sculptures obviously fashion from previous visitors as pissed off and disappointed with
'lagoon' as we were. So after about 5 minutes we headed back. Upon arriving at the beach we should of been on over two hours ago, we received some pretty strange looks from people as we walked along the beach camouflaged in mud. After washing ourselves off, met up with Jack and Eddy, got in some serious bat and ball action, chilled for a bit and then got ourselves together and ready to head back to Ao Nang to meet the girls.
We met up with the girls in the evening and got some dinner. The following day Katie (Jacks gf) and Amy headed off to Koh Phi Phi to meet their friends; Lola and Soph, since it was Soph's birthday. Unfortunately, Cat, one of the girls from
the Perhentian islands had to head back to Bangkok as she had a flight home a week earlier than her friends. The rest of us chilled on the beach for the day and the the next day we headed to Ko Pha Ngan where we would eventually reunited with Kate, Amy, lola, Soph and various other people for the full moon party..........................
