Edit Blog Post
Dear All,
Sorry its been so long since my last blog, but regretfully we simply havn't been able to get into the town (or more accurately we've been unable to come in and spend several hours in an Internet Cafe while our driver goes off and does something else). Also please forgive the poor structure to this blog as for many reason that are truly beyond my control it is below standard.
After flicking over my last enteries to jog my memory in regard to what I have already written it has become apparent that I have only emphasised the wierder side of Thailand. I'd like to take this moment to point out that while all this is happening we are also being treated to gorgous views and great food (or indeed great food and gorgous food). For example last weekend we went with the school leavers on a kind of 'good bye weekend'. This comprised of a sightseeing trip up a mountain on which we were treated to some really superb views (beats the Lake district hands down) followed the next day by a visit to the local huge lake. However, instead of chilling on the shaw on
a floating hut we were all taken into the middle of the lake to enjoy three hours of swimming and chilling. (Regretfully Dill's lost his camera - I know, real shocker- and so we don't have any pictures of it). Again, a couple of weekends ago we were taken up into the mountian with the local Priest (Fr Presong, who we affectionatly reffer to as Fr Hat owing to his habbit of donning said head attire at all times - indeed I've started wearing mine a lot more, as a kind of private homage to him) by tractor and saw some really green lovely sceenery (it rained that day which helped to keep things cool as well). Indeed, the huts in the hills are so remote and peacefull, with their views and simplicity, that one wonders why one should'nt just retire from the stress of the West and just come and live up here! (Don't worry, I'm not going to and nor have I found myself or any of that mumbo jumbo).
With regard to what else I've been doing I have also spent a night in the local Buhdist Temple. Though this sounds amazing in reality it was
Sports Day
Dancing was a pretty big event and there was several performances (led mainly by the two lady-boys) not. We were very much left to our own devises and frankly I've discovered you being in temple does not particularly help one meditate, which if your interested I've started doing. I know, I know. Your probably thinking Macca's turning into a real nutter but I'm not. It really is'nt that big a deal out here (and works a treat if you can't get to sleep)!
Finally, some evil French people (not at all that French people are evil, not at all Mrs Rich, not at all!) came to the village with the son that they had adopted from the region 18 years previously. As local celebrities we were of course invited to come to the welcoming ceremony and duely we went. During the ceremony I noticed that these knew Ferang were not looking very comfortable and despite a very nice evening left the next morning! This presented a problem for Fr Hat who had already arranged for them to go to a stay with a family, who in turn had made preperations (inviting other guests, buying western food etc). The result was that as Farang we had to go and fill the void as it were. In the
run up to the sleep over we were all fairly uncertain and anxious about what was to happen and to be honest saw it as a chore that had to be undertaken to help out our friend, Fr Hat, who was in a tight spot. However, when eventually we got to the Farm we saw a large grand house (by Thai standards) and were warmly greeted. The food we were given was very nice (especially the Jack fruit, which I am developing a real liking for, from their garden) and with Fr Presong issuing a joke a minute the evening passed swimingly. I also had my first Thai shower which involves the pouring of cold water over ones head by hand, (Sounds bad but in the heat is very refreshing) and also myself an Dill slept under the stars on the balcony.
Oh, you may be interested to know that next week we finish in the school and will be going north to Chaing Mai, the major northern city. Indeed, we have finished teaching in the school (the children are doing the exams).
Finally I saw a JCB 4CX the other day and was rather excited!
Anyway,
Our First Lunch at a resteraunt
The eateries in Thailand are really cool mainly because you mainly eat in out door hut like this one. (also good food) time is a ticking and I have lots more to do,
I hope you are all well and more importantly reading my blog! (on a similar note please leave remarks as it makes me feel a lot more loved)
Macca (or Christian as the case may be)
