The rest of the trek....
We had a 10am start the next day after a healthy sized breakfast. we had another 3 hour trek to the 'Jungle Camp' which was "same, same but different" as described by Machete.
The walk was similar to the day before up and down a few hilly bits that had us ll puffing and panting with Machete stopping occasionally to hand us a leave to taste or smell. When it came to negotiating our way through the rice paddies we moved quite slowly as the thin walls dividng the wet boggy paddies aren't exactly stable and noone fancied falling in.
When we stopped for a noodle luynch Machete asked if anyone fancied trying Tarantula for tea! Jordan was up for it so Machete shot off into the jungle and came back 10mins later with Peter. He was very much alive and only contained in a plastic bottle with a massive slit tied together with an elastic band. I was made to carry him the rest of the way back to camp, frequently checking he was still visible inside his makeshift cage.
The camp beds were simialar to the night before but no

Its the women's job... matresses just hard wood and blankets but the Jungle Camp was awesome. There was no typical shower but it was right next to a mini waterfall and a big bamboo pipe fed water from nearer the top to act as a shower nearer the camp. There were two sketchy looking hammocks and a few benches round a fire pit and that was pretty much it.
When we arrived we all had a little splash in the waterfall. The boys were given small bombs by Machete that they tied to rocks threw into the water and tried to catch fish with once they popped up dead! That night after another big and tasty dinner the guides set up a fire in the pit and put the fish and some live crabs on sticks to BBQ. Machete spiked Peter and another unlucky spider that lived by the camp onto a bamboo cane and added them to the collection. When they were cooked the boys very bravely ate the spiders and we all tried the other bits and bobs.
This strange feast of ours continued until fairly late in the night with frogs, crickets and other bugs added to the collection
all BBQ'd and eaten. These additions were caught from the nearby stream and Machete even managed to catch more fish with his HANDS! A little rod Jord had set up earlier also had a fish on it, I was so excited when i pulled it out I flung it straight into a tree but Jord rescued it and it too met its end on the fire.
The next day we swam in another waterfall before heading for lunch in a local village. Here Machete left us 😞 and it was bamboo rafting time. The rafts were huge and as jordan found out fairly difficult to manouver downstream over the occasional rapid. The 'pilots' messed about tipping us this way and that and one managed to get Jord completly off the raft into the river haha! In the hour we spent rafting we only had one major crash which sent jord flying onto Janis's head but we were all soaked by the time we reached the bus back to Chaing Mai.
In the words of Machete: See you when you see me!
