night market, chiang mai 16 MARCH 2007
We finally arrived in Chiang Mai just as the sun was going down. We rang our guest house and they eventually picked us up. (having a thai sim card comes in very handy) The city is pretty and has a big moat all around the centre with fountains in. It's so much calmer than Bangkok. My room was pretty crap and didn't even resemble the nice rooms the tour place had shown me in the brochure. It was also quite noisy. Christian and Birgitte the German couple were also doing the same as us but had got the train. We met another German couple who were doing our tour, and we all went for dinner. We went to the night market which was really nice with loads of great stuff (fairy lights, candles, jewellery etc) We went to a big seating area surrounded by restaurants and had a really nice huge VERY spicy dinner.
17TH MARCH
This was the first day of a 3 day trek. We did another elephant trek, which wasn't was good as the one in Kanchanaburi as it was really just an excuse to sell us bananas, so it was

night market, chiang mai more like a tour from banana hut to banana hut. The elephants expected to get bananas each time so when we stopped buying them we would get a trunk reaching back, then get covered in elephant snot when we failed to provide bananas.
I can't be bothered to write any more so I shall just add photo's for now and go back and add details later....There's 3 pages of photos on this entry which took a while!
