From the pier we took another songtheau to our resort. We rode through a little village that reminded me alot of Jamaica. When we got near our bungalow we got dropped off on the main road and had to hike down to the beach to find our resort, Penny's. When we saw the bungalows, it made the night bus worth it.
The main area was an open air restaurant and pool area where you had to check in. There were bungalows along side of the pool and the overlooked and rocky beach and the ocean. We ate breakfast, Nolan and I took a swim in the ocean and the pool and then decided to take a nap. Kimani rented a motor scooter and went to explore the island. When he got back Nolan decided to rent a bike and I tried his out. I got the hang of it pretty quickly so I got my own scooter too. We headed back towards the village and stopped at White Sands Beach. We checked out the beach and the stores and stuff and then decided to head up the road to the next beach. I can't remember how to spell it, sorry.
Fishing Boats
Here was the view from the Ferry as we were docking. When we got there we found a fancy resort that had a place for you to get a massage right on the beach. I decided to go for it since it was almost sunset.
That was my first experience with an actually Thai massage. She really worked out a lot of knots in my back. It was a little cloudy so the sunset wasn't amazing, but it was definitely worth the time. Something about hearing the water soothes the pisces soul. When it was dark and Nolan and Kimani hadn't returned, I figured something was wrong. I decided to go back to the hotel by myself, which was pretty scary for me on my scooter. I did fine though and was pretty proud of myself as I pulled up to the bungalows and saw Nolan standing there. He had gotten into a wreck. While he was making a u-turn, his helmet fell of and as he tried to catch it, he side swiped a parked car. It sucked because the car was brand new and of course we had to pay for the guy's car and the damage to the scooter. Luckily the scratch on the car was lek
and the motor scooter wasn't that bad. The best thing of all was that Nolan wasn't really hurt. He had a few scrapes, but other then that he was fine. All in all, the experience with the accident wasn't too bad. We paid the dude for his new ride, and in the morning they took the bike to the shop to check for damage. It ended up being $100 for the bike, but we were glad it wasn't more. Kimani decided to stay on Koh Chang instead of heading over to Koh Mak which was a less developed island. I am glad that he found his happy place.
We took a songtheau down to Bang Boa which was a little fishing village at the southern tip of Koh Chang. We wandered around through the shops and a got nervous because I realized everything was on a pier and at certain places you could fall in. That would be my luck, but somehow I managed to stay dry. We ate a restaurant where you could pick your food out of a tank. This was probably my favorite food in Thailand, although the sushi restaurant the last night was amazing, too.
The Rocky Beach
Nolan is probably looking for fish to catch! I ordered Tiger prawns in a Tamarind Sauce and Nolan ordered a salted, grilled fish. We had to hurry because our speed boat was heading was leaving soon. The food was amazing and we loved the atmosphere. If we ever make it back to Koh Chang we are definitely going to stay on this part of the island. We ate our food, grabbed our bags and headed to catch our speed boat. I couldn't see the speed boat, only the giant wooden slow boat. A Swede kept asking were the speed boat was and the lady kept pointing to the wooden boat, and he would reply that's no speed boat. It turned out we just had to climb through the wooden boat, through another speed boat, and then finally on to our speed boat. That was definitely crazy.
The boat ride was beautiful. There are tons of islands, although most were really small and uninhabited. One island that we stopped at was called Rayang, which is a private island. Nolan wants to stay there next time. We couldn't see the bungalows, just one beach area. Looks pretty secluded. We pulled up to the island across the bay from Rayand
Our Patio View
If you are standing directly in front of the elephant shower the sun passes right beneath its trunk as it sets. Great view! and we pulled up to Monkey Island. We all climbed out of the boat and they threw us our luggage. We walked up to an open air bar and asked for directions to the Reception desk.
