What a View!What a View!What a View!

Here was the view from our beds. It looks out onto our outdoor living room and the beach.
So Kimani found his happy place on Koh Chang; and we've found it on Koh Mak. I can see why Jenny loves to spend her free time here. This is one of the most amazing places I've ever been. It ranks right up their with Cayman and Jamaica.

The speed boat dropped us off right at our hotel and we headed to reception to check in. It was an open air desk, with sand floors. The layout of the bungalows was really cool. The fancy ones were in the front with a beach view and had hot water and air con. They had cheaper bungalows with private baths and fans, and then even cheaper ones with a shared bath. We decided we were ballin', even after the accident, and went for the Gorilla Cabins for a whopping $50 a night. We took a few minutes to enjoy our surroundings and to realize how lucky we were to be there, and then we headed to the beach for a swim. We played around in the water for awhile and then decided to take a walk. We walked around the main road and checked out the store and a few other bungalows

So these beds weren't as comfortable as the ones at Penny's, but the view sure made up for it.
in the area. We decided to go have a beer at the Orangataun bar which was where the boat dropped us off. The bartender Ras Tee was a reggae singer and he kept us entertained playing the violin and the guitar. We played a game of dominoes and then walked up the beach to grab some dinner. When we got back to the bungalows, we passed out in our hammocks, until I finally stumbled inside to go to bed.

The next morning we got up early and kicked it on the beach for awhile. We decided to rent motorscooters again, against my better judgment. There were not alot of cars on Koh Mak so that made it alot simpler. Nolan actually had to get a motorbike with a clutch, since they only had one scooter. We headed around the island and were planning on checking out Sunset, where Jenny likes to stay. We weren't sure if Jenny was going to join us since it was such a long way for a one day trip. As we were riding our bikes, we saw Stop Nudel, a Issan woman's restaurant that Jenny told us about. We stopped there for some lunch

We loved the hammocks that were at our bungalow. Nothing beats a nap in the hammock while you can hear the waves crashing.
and realized we didn't have any small baht. We headed to the town store to get some change, and while I was in the parking lot, I saw a truck go by and heard my name. In the back of the truck was Jenny heading to Monkey Island. We stopped back at the Noodle shop and paid for lunch and went to go meet up with Jenny. We were excited to be in paradise together and decided that she could just crash on our outdoor couch or in one of the hammocks. We swam, played dominoes, walked along the beach, ate dinner, and then ended our night back at the Organtuan bar, while being serenaded by Ras Tee. Nolan met a Swede that worked at a New Orleans Bar back in Sweden and actually knew some one that we hung out in Nashville with after the storm. He is a musician in New Orleans. Small world. They exchanged information and Nolan is supposed to send him a copy of the NO Juice Cd which his friend helped produce. Our time in Thailand is coming to a close and it makes me very sad. Nolan and I are always glad to

I thought the key was hilarious. I saw it in the brochure, but thought it was exaggerated. Nope.
get back to NOLA, but somehow I think this time it will be different. Nolan really loves it here and has spent the last few days trying to talk me into moving here eventually. Not sure I'm ready to be an ex-pat. I definitely want to come back to South East Asia and spend a month here checking out Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, and the southern and northern parts of Thailand. This trip has let me know that Nolan and I can travel anywhere and get along. Even though we can't read any signs, or barely speak to anyone, we have gotten around amazingly well. I can't imagine where our next trip will be to, but I know it won't be long. We definitely have been bitten by the travel bug.

We were glad Jenny joined us on the islands. It was a long trip for one day, but definitely worth it.

This is something that I always thought was scary, but really I liked it. There was something free about it.

Next time I come back to Koh Mak, I am going to spend at least a week here. I don't ever want to leave!
