Hi guys, boy, are we behind on our blogs or what? Have 3 nearly ready to go after this one, but will be spending nearly all day today (Thurs 29th?) on a bus so hope to get one or two out mininum. Off to Siem Riep and Angkor Wat today. Just worked out we still have about 7 nights planned in Cambodia which puts us about 5 days behind schedule. Whoops. Oh well! No way we are going to hurry through anything, might just have to stay over here longer....
Anyway here you go!
Saturday 24th March
We were meant to leave Koh Chang yesterday morning but decided that we would stay 1 more night in the 'nice' part of the resort. 2500 baht (arghh....$90) but for a gorgeous room with the most comfortable bed, pillows and doona that we have ever slept in!
On Thursday, Gav hired a motorbike for an hour whilst Mia and I played and made sandcastles. Out for dinner with Ceri & Jai again for the BBQ - had gorgeous bbq'd chicken fillet marinated in black pepper - yum! Mia had a huge salad and some of Ceri's chicken kebab (which
we think made them all a little sick the next day :-( At this point we were planning on an early night so we could get up early and head off for a full days travel to Sihanoukville in Cambodia. Just as we were about to leave the bbq, the heavens opened up from out of nowhere and it absolutely bucketed down with rain. We all made a mad dash for the actual undercover 'restaurant' and were all trapped there for an hour or so until the rain stopped. At this point, I told Gav that I'd be happy to stay another night if our clothes were all wet etc. When it finally stopped, we got back to our bungalow (10 minute walk away along the beach) where Gav suggested that we stay an extra night in the nice room so we could rest up, re pack everything (ie remove all bugs) and just laze about. He also suggested that rather than spend a full day travelling from Koh Chang to Sihanoukville (45 min song thaew, 1 hour boat, 30 minute song theaw, 1 1/2 hour minibus to border, then 4 hour boat) that we spend a night just across
the border of Cambodia and then head further the next day. So that is what we are doing!
The next day we just lazed about in the room and by the pool. The sea had roughed up a little so the pool was a great place to be. For dinner we went to the 'Blue Lagoon' which is also a Thai cooking school. Gorgeous setting near the beach and, believe it or not, a lagoon.
Had a beautiful meal of green chicken curry, fried fish with tamirind and lemongrass, prawn and crab finger spring rolls and more.
Today (Sat 24th) we arrived at the the pier for the ferry at 11.50am only to be told that the next ferry we had a ticket for left at 1pm. Bugger that - stuff the fact that we had already prepurchased tickets - I said 'quick, let's get the taxi to rush us to the other ferry terminal (a few minutes away) and catch the 12pm one there (this is where everyone else had been dropped off) - why we were put on a different one, I have no idea. So 120 baht later, we were on the 12pm - finally
on our way.
(it also worked out well that we had the extra night in the nice place, as Mia had woken to have a very runny bum, and there is no way that we would have been able to travel!)
