Today I was a little bit less busy than yesterday!
I started the day by trying a new coffee shop that was on my to-do list, the Hello Strangers Cafe on Soi 26! Great place for reading, working on my computer and they have great coffee! Only thing that would have made this place perfect is simply that they don’t have food (except some croissant and cakes). Stayed there a little bit more time than I should and enjoyed two very good cup of coffee!
After that, I left for the Chinese New Year Celebration! There were so many people, it was insane! First stop was the Flower Dragon Temple (google map named it: Tempo de Mangkon Kamalawat). Not much to say except that the place was really really crowded.
I walked back to Yaowarat Rd with the hope of seeing the New Year parade! Road completely blocked by so many people, never saw that much police officers. There should have been one every 2 meter on both side of the street! Then it was a little bit strange, some workers were cleaning the street were the palace was supposed to occur… The gates for the crowd were
in a perfect line. Then we heard a policeman saying to the other: “The special guest is here!”. So I’m getting my camera ready. Two policemen came to see me and said that I wasn’t allowed to take pictures. After that, the policemen were making sure that everybody in the crowd wasn’t wearing a hat. Then a group of maybe 40 policewoman were walking, then security guards, then some motorbike with people dressed in blacked, then a group of twenty-thirty official photographers and then she arrived, it was HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn! In total I waited near that gate for about 3 hours for the parade and the policeman in front of me told us that the parade should start in another 1.5h.
So I decided to head back to my hotel, have a supper and go back at Jack’s Hideaway for the Monday night pool league! You remember, I said it was crowded earlier? It took me about 45 minutes to walk about 1km to get to the MRT (Metro Station), blocked in some kind of a human traffic jam! Then I waited in line at one of the 4 machines to get my token for a
little bit more than 30 minutes and finally made it to the Asoke Area! No time to stop at the hotel, no time for supper, no time for shower (I want to formally apologies to my team mates for that) and made it just in time for the games! This year the league is using a mixed format 8 balls and 9 balls, single and double matches. We lost the match 13-10 (or something like that!). It was nice to see the old friends Jack and Gordon.
Before getting back to the hotel, I stopped at a small venue to see my friends Jar and Boo! We had a good chat with a few beers! Thanks Boo for being yourself!
