My vacation is nearing an end, I will be flying home in a few hours. I am in South Korea at the moment awaiting the second leg of my journey. I have a 12 hour layover and the airline hooked me up with a really nice hotel. I was going to explore the city, but after getting to this hotel, seeing how awesome it is, and realizing how exhausted I am, I decided my tour of South Korea was best spent here in my hotel room. Free computer, a gigantic television, a fantastic shower...
So, my last few days were spent in Bangkok at my new friends' Paul and Robine who are teachers in Bangkok. They had a really nice house to stay at and were very gracious hosts. Something stupid I did while in Ko Pha-ngan was lose my ATM card by leaving it in a machine. And being that credit cards are not widely excepted here I was more than a little screwed. Lucky thing I was staying with friends.
I toured around Bangkok Monday and Tuesday. Monday I toured the city with Doug, which I am now realizing I probably posted that day in my last
blog. Pirated software, night market, beers at the night market with crazy cover singing bands with dancers...pretty fantastic. So, we will move on to Tuesday. Tuesday I took the skytrain to the riverboat taxi which took me to the Grand Palace. It was beautiful there and I took many pictures. It was hotter than hell yesterday though. After the palace I walked back to the riverboat taxi and attempted to go to Chinatown to do my last bit of Thailand shopping. Unfortunately I wasn't paying enough attention on the boat and I ended up missing my stop. I realized it two stops after and got off thinking I could just walk back to Chinatown. That was a lot harder than I thought it would be. After about 2 hours of wandering around, getting lost, and seeing a very large portion of the industrial area of Chinatown I never found any shopping. I finally gave up, my feet were done, and hailed a cab who took me back to the skytrain station. From there I went to a shopping area I knew how to get to and wandered around. I decided to buy nothing though, which I am regretting a little,
cause there were some really awesome earmuffs shaped liked strawberries I am now regretting not buying. Oh well, there is always something I regret not buying when traveling. But they would have been awesome!!!
Some final thoughts on my trip... It was great traveling alone, but I was much happier once I made some friends. I will do it again. I am really happy for all the new friends I made on this trip, including my family in Chiang Mai. It was wonderful having Jim, May, and Jake as tour guides and as someone to check in with and talk to every few days. I never felt alone here. A month in Thailand was a perfect amount of time to see it all, another month would have been even better, but a month felt sufficient. I wish I had another month of vacation to explore another country and am not ready to come home. I can't wait for my next trip which I am sure I will start planning once I get home. Next time, I will learn the language. I wish I would have at least learned some basic conversation skills. It was not neccessary here, you can
get along just fine, but it would have been nice.
I am ready to face reality again I suppose. Time to go home and look for a job. I am excited as to what I may end of doing next I suppose. I am also really excited to see my pups again, drink out of the tap, excercise, and hang out with my friends in Seattle and talk to the rest of my friends and sisters on the phone again. So, there are many positives in entering back into reality, and I think I can handle the negatives just fine.
Ok, I suppose that is all I have. My shuttle picks me up from here in a half hour, and then I have two hours at the airport. Maybe I will eat some Korean food at the airport. See you all or talk to you very soon!!!!!!!
