Edit Blog Post
hello time to do the bangkok blog, we have been to bangkok a few times on our travels as it has been a stop of point to get to other places, but this time we stayed to do some tourist stuff and we have done alot in the week that we have been here. the first thing we done was went on a night out on the backpacker hub of the ko san road, this road is famous for buying all sorts of things from food to clothes and fake id's like driver liscence or you can even get a degree. as well as the things you can buy it's a 24 hour party street full of bars and music constantly playing 24 hours a day you can't help but feel in the mood for a party.
On are first night back we went out and went to meet our friend jam at her bucket bar, we met jam at her bar on our first stay in bangkok back in september, after work she came out on a couple of nights out with us. she is from a island called ko tao and is studying in bangkok she works at
the bar for what she called her party money. the graet thing about partying on ko san road is that you don't have to go into any pub or club to party you can just buy a beer and hang out on the street. their was a shop called family mart that sold beer 24 hours a day so one time me and mika just got some beers and had a street party, more and more people came out of the clubs and bars and joined us it lasted nearly untill morning really great fun.
The first tourist thing we done was went to china town which was a very buisy but interesting place we tried some really great food their the only problem is i don't know what any of it was called becuase we just pointed at things becuase their was no english writing telling you what it was. That night we went to a muay thai kick boxing staduim to watch some thai kick boxing which was a great expereince, watching all the locals gambling was very interesting. me and mika made things more exciting by backing a fighter each with the wager being one beer,
i won all 3 bets, i also really liked the traditional music that played juring each fight.
next was a long day of sight seeing, first was the grand palace and the emrald budha, you have to be fully clothed when entering this place but we where told by our good friends Megan and Clark from New Zeland that they give you light trousers when you arrive. it was funny when just before we went into the temple a man selling light trousers rushed over in a panic and acted like we would get shot if we went to the palace not having bought his trousers, but thanks to Megan and Clark we knew better.
The grand palace was alot of money but you can't not go because it is an amazing sight.
after that we walked to the reclyining budha which is a gold budha that is reclyining at the length of half a football picth, i have seen this before on tv but it was great to see it with my own eyes. after the that we crossed the river to go to a khemer temple that had a great view of the the skyline of
bangkok. then we had noodle soup and a bag of coke for lunch, some resturants like to recycle their coke bottles to get money so they put it in a bag which was fine with me becuase it's 5 baht cheaper to have it in a bag rather than a bottle.
One thing i really like about bangkok was the public transport, it has been alot easier than any city so far whilst ive been traveling to get around on your own, whilst we have been here we have used the bus, boat taxi, and sky train. Using the public transport saved us money as well, it is very buisy because bangkok is a massive city but we where never in a rush to get any where so didn't mind.
after a long day of sight seeing we met up with Megan and Clark and had yet another night out with friends they know from New Zeeland and Jam, even when you don'y feel like going out if you walk from one end of ko san road to the other it makes you want to go out because you see everyone having a great time. After a few
days not doing much we said good bye to Megan and Clark as they where heading to Japan and we where spedning a day out of bagkok to go the floating market. we decided to stay at the floating market over night so we could wake up early and rent out a boat man before the tourist busess from bangkok arrived. again i had seen the floating market on tv but being their was alot better. I had noodle soup for breakfast made by a man straight out of his boat on the floating market, i also had some coconut pancake which was really nice but i havent seen it any where else. We where worried that the flaoting market would be really touristy as it is very popular but we got their early enough and i was happy i went their.
To sumarise on Bangkok it is defently my favourite capital city so far i just love the excess with a smile it's a great place to meet people from all over the world. so many people we have bumped into that we previously met on our travels in a different place. Every time i leave bangkok i
feel sad at the thought of not coming back because for me it's a great city with cool places a short drive away.
Catching the bus to Ko Pha Ngan today, really excited to be spending new years eve at a full moon party.
hope all of you has a good xmas i will do my next blog after new years.
