ME and Masha (German pal) in a Tuk Tuk Hello
As you can see its been longer this time since I wrote a blog, so this will probably be a long one. I went into Bangkok with Lorna and we managed to get the mini bus to Chatuchuck market (a big market in Bangkok). It was soo hot and the market was really busy so we didn’t spend long there as either of us wanted to buy anything. We then got the subway, which was good as it was all air-conditioning. We planned to head towards the river and then get a public boat up the river to the palace bit. When we got off the subway we had no idea where to go even with our maps, it is all so busy and confusing. The Thai people are so friendly so as we looked all confused we got help from a local and he guided us to the river, then we were guided by another local. We reached the river and got on the public river boat, its like a bus but on the water (I have pics attached hopefully). We got off near the palace and then trying to decided what to do. Lorna wanted to do
a trial run into Bangkok as she is heading into it 2nite and I wanted to go and meet the tourist information lady (I met with Marsha) to book my trip for when I finish volunteering. I phoned the lady and she said for me to meet her at her sisters office not the office I met her at originally, as then she could do me a better deal. I agreed but didn’t have a clue where this office was (I know it all sounds dodgy but I think I have good judge of character and I liked her) it ended up being a wild goose chase lol! We walked across Bangkok to the mall from the river and it took bout 1 hour and we took our lives in our own hands when crossing those manic roads. Not many Thai people walk that’s why there is so much traffic, so when we said to people we were walking they looked at us strange. We managed to get to the MBK (shopping mall) and we got some well deserved dinner in a posh multi culture restaurant. It was nice but we did pay approx 4x we would on the stalls

Big standing Buddha in Bangkok and prob taste the same. I then called the tourist lady (Vanita) and she said to get in a taxi and she would tell the taxi driver where to go. The 1st taxi took us to the wrong place so I ended up calling Vanita again and she had to speak to some random Thai person and get him to put us into a taxi and take us to the right place. We did get there in the end and I booked my trip with Vanita at a good price. I’m going off on the 11th Oct by bus from Bangkok to Ko Toa (an island where they do a lot of diving) I will stay there for 5d and do my PADI (diving license), then I will get a night bus to Phuket (beach on south on west coast) and spend 3 nights there and do beachy stuff and surfing, then I fly back on the 21st Oct to Bangkok where I then get my flight back to the UK on 22nd Oct bout 2am. So this is something I can look forward to after my 6 weeks here.
”ve hopefully attached some photo’s to this blog so

me in front of big Buddha u can see how big it is you can see my trip to Bangkok the 1st day and also last sat, my room, my happy shopper bike and also the children.
I’ve been working at the girl’s home this week and this is where I’ll be working for the rest of my time here. It is good as I have continuity with the girls and trying not to but have favorites already. I was on my own again on Monday so then I chose who to do physio on but I try to do all of them that come to the day centre. On Tues I had a volunteer physio from the U.S, this was good as I was able to see if I was doing the right things and also share ideas with her. It was also good as I’m not the only westerner and was able to speak English to someone during the day. My Thai is improving and I learn from the girls and the other workers. I have made up a little book where I put useful phrases in and also put different Thai dishes in the back. I have had to order my food in Thai at lunch time so as
I’m getting bored of chick and rice I’ve been trying to practice saying other dishes. I have also discovered an excellent pick me up drink to have at lunch and it picks me up for the rest of the day. Its cold coffee, and I have learnt how to say that in Thai, I think it will be a regular thing for me at lunch time as it’s the afternoons that get me (tired and sleepy). The days are soo draining as we have to go to the wards and pick the girls up and that’s manually to the wheel chairs and the I’m picking them up in the day centre (don’t worry I’m bending correctly and also wont pick anyone who’s heavy on my own). It’s just in the heat and physical activity with only fans to cool down it takes a lot out of you. Thank goodness for the cold coffee to pick me up (not sure what the special ingredient is but it certainly gives me wings!!). I had both Joan and Lorna with me 2day which was good and we managed to see quite a lot of the girls. There was one girl both Lorna and

The living room I saw on the ward and she looked so skinny (like an African orphan) and the position she had adopted in the cot around the other girls in there looked so uncomfortable. When we went back to the day ward Joan asked if we could fetch the child to the day centre and they said we could. Joan brought her back to the day centre and fed her water she took one bottle so fast like she had no water in ages. She felt so hot so Lorna (GP) examined her and she had a rash on her front maybe through heat? We gave her loads more water and cooled her down with a cold wet towel and also gave her some paracetamol. We informed the CCD workers and they were concerned and informed the ward staff and we were told to take her back and they were possibly going to take her to the sick ward?? We were just pleased we took her to the day centre.
It’s now poring down with raining outside and Joan has gone to Rainbow house and Lorna is off to Bangkok, so I am all alone. I think Joan may stay at Rainbow

not quite a good pic but me on the happy shopper (will get a better one) house until the rain stops but it could go on for a while?? I hope not as I’m hungry and want to go and get some dinner. No change there then eh? I’m not starving here as I can get bread so I can have my toast (although not as good as back home), I can get crisps and chocolate and also Oreo cookies. They also do lovely ice creams so don’t worry Sarah I won’t be loosing weight!!
We have an early start tomorrow as we have to go to Rainbow house (the main house for CCD) for 7am. That means leave on our bikes at 6.30am and probably just when the sun is rising. It is a big thing for CCD as it’s the grand openimg for CBR2, which is the 2nd community rehab team. There is apparently going to be about 400 people there and all CCD staff is to attend. There are important people from the government going so the streets have been cleaned up where we are going so it is all a big thing. I will make sure I’ll take my camera, but it think it may be a boring day for us as
