Beware!!! Thai Beer
Day 2 Well I was going to do some sightseeing on the BTS Skytrain today but I have the worst hangover - my friends will tell you that I am not a big drinker. More about that later. I have just been to McDonalds for my hangover cure - Big Mac Fries and a large Coke, it is starting to work, feel better already.
Back to Day 1 Probably walked about 10k today discovering more of the Silom area and in the afternoon rested for a while as I will still a bit weary from the late arrival into Bangkok the previous night.
Dropped into a pub that I have been to before and guess what - "no alchohol today - election Sir - no beer will be served for two days - no disco either" . Just my luck, so how did Leon get a hangover, more about that soon.
For my meal I had "Tom Kha Kai" which is chicken soup with coconut milk, really good Thai dish and also if you want a yummy desert try "Banana in coconut milk" which is served warm, really delicous.
After my
meal I went to the Suan Lum Night Bazaar which is next to Lumphini Park, a long walk from my hotel but well worth the visit. This place is huge with a outdoor dining area about 800 metres long with live bands playing, would have been over a thousand people dining when i was there. There are hundreds, maybe thousands of small stalls selling everything imaginable, don't know how they all make profits as there doesn't seem to be as many tourist here as expected for the high season.
Another 3km walk and I was back at the Patpong Market in Silom. The market dominates this part of Silom and is also the centre of the Go Go Bars which are adjacent to the market
After the night bazaar I went back to the pub and went upstairs to the karoake room and this is where the fun was happening. Alchohol was being served, probably breaking some rules as you could'nt get a drink downstairs because of the election.
Well I had one or two beers and got talked into singing a couple of songs - Eric Clapton's "Wonderful Tonight" and Elvis "Can't Help Falling In Love

Beer Garden - Live music - sorry a bit blurred With You". This has got to be more fun than my usual friday night in Adelaide watching TV. Think I would have emptied the bar if I sang anymore but the question is - who was I singing to and did someone special sing a song in Thai for Leon?
Everyone in the bar was having a great time with the staff singing as well and I got a bit carried away with everything and had about 6 Leo beers - about two or three is my limit usually so the room started to spin. Well we all had a great night, one I will always remember except for the hangover I have had today. Maybe tonight I will do some more exploring, want to see more of this big and exciting city Bangkok.
Train Tickets
When I arrived at my new hotel today @Home Silom my train tickets for Chiang Mai and Surit Thani had been delivered by courier as arranged back in November by "Royal Exclusive Travel Co Ltd" in Bangkok. I would recommend this agency if you need train tickets, they emailed back immediately when I contacted them and provided an excellent service.

Beer garden and dining Breaking free from Silom Well I have been keeping to my comfort zone of Silom till tonite. After a magnificent Pad Thai with shrimp omelete for 125 baht (about $5) I finally ventured onto the BTS Skytrain and travelled to Siam the main shopping hub of Bangkok. The skytrain is easy, just select your destination, pay in 5 or 10 baht coins and you are issued with a card. Put your card in the slot at the entrance to the platform and remember to keep it as you will need it at the exit gate. If you do make a mistake and don't pay enough, I went two stops further than I paid for, you will be directed to the cashier where you pay the extra and they give you another card to put through the exit gate. Just keep smiling at anyone in an official position and they are nearly always helpful. Show some respect to every worker here whatever they are doing and you will get it back and more. At Siam there is an interchange from the Silom line to the other skytrain line which takes you to Suhkumvit. You just need to climb up and
Sathorn Road
Xmas spirit alive and well here down lots of stairs, not a particularly friendly system for disabled or someone with a dodgy knee. I will be using the skytrain a lot now and will also try the underground Metro subway system. Now I can really have a look around this city.
