We arrived in Bangkok in the early hours of Saturday morning...had booked one night at Suk 11 Guesthouse in Sukhumvit and crossed our fingers that we would be able to find our room key when we got there at 2am. All worked out fine and our first night staying in air-con with lovely sleep-in was great!

The next few days were spent exploring Bangkok, getting used to sights and smells and traffic+++. Enjoyed wandering around the streets and even trying different tastes from both restaurants and street vendors. In all we spent five nights in Bangkok. Two in Sukhumvit and three near the infamous Khao San Road. Stayed on a nice street back from Khao San Rd called Rambutri which was a little less touristy than Khao San.

Enjoyed drinking bucket cocktails at the Volksbar for 200B with Bails, Bear and Wes from Mt Isa...a great night catching up with these three crazy lads. Learnt a thing or two about bartering from them and have had increased confidence in this ever since!

Over the few days we were there we explored the Grand Palace as well as Wat Pho which were great. Also ventured in to Chinatown

Sign at Charlie's bar reads...Thank you for only pee do not shit!
and had our first experience ordering food from vendors who speak no English...survived to tell the tale.

Had one truly "farang" moment when we found ourselves standing right in the middle of a "secure area" totally oblivious to this, reading our map. We were eventually told to hurry up and move by the police, just before a very official motorcade came whizzing through (??the King)!
