Hi Everybody,
Very excited as just managed to write my own pictures onto a CD on computer in hotel. This may seem an easy thing to most people but not something I have done before, so very chuffed to have successfully completed and yes it was a peice of piss!
Anyway. Plans to go to the Grand Palace yesterday were thrawted by George Bush senior and his lovely wife Barb who were in an audience with the King of Thailand at the Grand Palace so the whole place was closed. Do not threat, we managed to fight off the numerous yellow shirted Thai's who tried to persuade us that we should go to a variety of other places in a Tuk Tuk which they could get for us at some astronomical price to go to a whole range of places we had no desire to visit. When in fact we were merely looking for the temple Wat Po, which was about 100 yards from where we were standing and they all tried to send us off in any direction but the one we wanted! Very unhelpful people they are, always trying to con you one way or another! That
Rich about to jump
Didn't actually make it on the first attempt but he did on the second. Look on his face isn't exactly one of joy!! does not of course go for the majority of Thai's just the ones that try to get you in a Tuk Tuk or Taxi where the meter has met with some kind of "accident" and therefore does not work. One such guy tried to charge us 200 bhart to go only 1 1/2 km which (when we did find a Taxi who would put his meter on) only cost us 43 bhart!!!! You see what I mean.
Due to the insistence of both Giles and Tara we did get ourselves a massage in the temple. Man, did you say it was supposed to be a massage, I thought massages were meant to be relaxing. This was more like some kind of torture where when you made expressions of pain on your face you were met with cheery smiles from the girl sat on top of you inflicting this horrible torture. Despite all that, it was a very bizarre experience and bits were pleasant, not sure if they were outweighed by the bits where I was worried she was about to rip my head off for some unknown crime I was unaware I had committed! But we did managed to
walk out intact after an hour and surprisingly felt much better!!!! How does that work. I honestly recommend you to try it, but don't be fouled that it will be entirely pleasant.
Well, after that we visited the notorious Ko San Road, which was an experience. I can at least now say I have been there, but I am not sure I will be going back. Full of tourists (yes I am aware I am one too) and overpriced watered down Thai curries. Though we may be spoilt food wise in the area where we are staying, our hotel restaurant is particularly reasonable, roughtly 1 pound for a main course and about 10p for rice. Or maybe I am just a contacturous old fart who'd much rather see the history and sights than mingle with the lobster red scantily clad tourists and dubious looking old men who have some young Thai girl, young enough to be their granddaughter, hanging off their arm. Not to mention that they all look like the sort of dodgy bastard you would run a mile from back home. Poor women. But its that long standing question which came first the trade (i.e. the women
Orchid
In water foundtain at Wat Po prostituting themselves) or the demand (the dodgy old bastards!) ??
Enough of that, and just to say, we did make it to the Grand Palace today, which was amazing (George Senior has gone elsewhere). Unfortunately the Emerald Buddha was closed as its having a change of clothes! But the reclining Buddha in Wat Po was also truly awesome and dinner last night at Cabbages and Condoms was absolutely fantastic. Also good to know that profits go to helping some of the women in Thailand who have been victims of the prostitution industry.
Off out tonight, to experience some of the seedier side of Thai culture. Rich gave me a choice, Thai kickboxing or the infamous Pat Pong. Not wanting to see Thai blokes kick the hell out of each other (it is also quite pricey) we are going to the latter, call me a bit of a prude but I'm not so keen, but I suppose you have to see these things whilst your here!
Time for some photos.
Love to you all and keep up the comments, we love hearing from everyone. And Tom, you'll be happy to know that we were lucky enough to
be told that its "ca" for a women and "crap" for a bloke, so fortunately we have avoided that little problem.
Loads and loads of love Rach xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Are you sure those thai girls aren't really boys?
Rich, you are putting on weight. Is that a little paunch I see there?! Are you going to the river Kwai or is that in the wrong direction? Keep blogging. xxxxx
