Watch you head….
This is probably how NBA players feel all the time. Slept very well last night. Seems I was tired from my day off…. Woke up to the alarm and wished I had more time to sleep. Needed a little stretch before breakfast, and made it a quick stop for some fruit and coffee. I’m surprised I’ve held up so well with all the running. I hadn’t been doing much at home because of the heat/humidity, but now it’s twice a day, no problem. Walked out the door this morning and found it was sprinkling and it lasted the entire train ride. It stopped as I got off the train platform, so it was off to 10 laps of running. Quiet morning at the gym today, and I ran by myself. It actually felt really good after the muscles loosened up during the first lap. A couple new faces showed up this morning. No idea how long they are here for. Even this last week, people have come and gone. One older guy did some jumprope, a few pad rounds, and asked me to take a picture of him and Fahlaep. Maybe one and done? Who knows. There was a younger guy with some experience also. He looked good, but found the
Just OK?
You would have thought the name would have been something like “The BEST Pad Thai” same thing we all do on the first training session here - it’s exhausting. All I know is I’ve got the afternoon session coming up in less than 2 hours. I have some phone video, but can’t seem to upload it here. I did buy a new memory card for the video camera, and I’ll be taking that to the gym to record some sessions.
I think it was 5 rounds this morning, 4 pad work and one sparring. It was tough to get back into the routine, but the power and endurance were there. All the rounds felt really good, even the final one when I was tired as usual, mostly because the sparring with Fahlaep really drains me. we did work through the normal progressions, and I’m starting to pick up what to throw just by the position of the pads. Runen did take some additional video on the phone, and I could see from that what my problem areas are. Mainly it’s footwork and turning my hips, and keeping the hands up. I spent a few rounds on the heavy bag working on my footwork and turning my hips. That seems to be the most consistent
The Grand Palace.
This was part of the bike tour. Went nearly all the way around the Palace. It’s a huge compound in clouding residence for the royal family, work offices and temples. thing I’m doing wrong. I can tell when it’s right because the kicks have much more power instead of just pushing. In the sparring round, Fahlaep “reminded me” that my hands need to stay up. Not too tired afterwards, and the walk back to the BTS was easy, but left lots to think about.
The afternoon started with very dark clouds threatening to make it a jumprope afternoon. Luckily the rain held off, and I got my 7 laps in. Jumprope was about 15 minutes mostly because Rune asked if I wanted to try his “Crossrope”. It looked very hi-tech with the metal swivels and rubber form fit handles. I asked if it was weighted, and, yes it was. He said only a pound, but it’s enough to be feeling it right now. I didn’t even use it for more than 5 minutes. I hated it so bad that I’ll probably get one to work into the home routine. When I picked up my leather rope, it was like it wasn’t even there… I had the video camera setup, but haven’t watched it yet, and right now I can’t remember if it was 5 or 6 rounds. I think
Eminent Air Champion Jomhod
Today was Jomhod’sf irst day training since his bike accident. His kicks are still as powerful as ever and the echo through the gym is impressive. He fights middle of next month. I wish him the best!. Oh, and that’s me in the background… 5 because I spent more time on the heavy bag today. The rounds went well, still noticing little things that need work. Hands drop when tired, hips don’t turn when tired, and sparring with Fahlaep is exhausting! I think the video has multiple shots of me getting dropped to the canvas by various sweeps and catches. Today’s surprise was the arrival of Jomhod, back to start training for his next fight. It was great to see him, as he is one of the few connections to the old days of the gym.
Week 2 begins with all of the old bruises and pains mostly gone, but today I was able to start whole new collection of new ones!
