From yesterday afternoon
This is where the I dropped the pads after the sparring, and that’s where I found them this morning. I thought I took them to the bleachers, but it appears not. I just couldn’t bring myself to walking to some of the restraints because they were farther than I had the energy for. It rained again during the night, but I only saw lightning flashes form the comfort of the bed. I was sooooo exhausted. I think I was asleep by 9:00 and didn’t wake up until 3 minutes before the alarm at 5:30. Not as sore as I was expecting to be this morning. It did seem to take awhile to gather up everything and hit breakfast. There’s definitely a difference in the activity on Saturday morning. Not nearly as many street vendors, or motorbikes and taxis flying all over the place. The interesting thing this morning was at the bottom of the steps of the BTS station, I was yelled at by a homeless woman saying “Hey, You! Money!” That’s one way to beg for money, but not one likely to meet much success. The train was quiet also and with the nice weather, I managed to get to the gym in less than 30 minutes. That left plenty of time to run my 10 laps that I wasn’t really looking forward to anymore. Maybe it’s just the ridiculous heat
A long way up….
… and that’s only halfway, to the floor where the ticket counter is located. There’s still more to go once you pass through the gate. and humidity of Savannah that has conditioned me, but it felt like a cool breeze on the run and not nearly as hot as back there. That’s not saying I wasn’t sweating a ton once I got moving. It’s pretty insane if you saw it. The other two regulars for the week, Rune and Martinez, soon joined the run. I think we were all feeling to toll that a week of twice a day training brings. i Lost count of my laps, but I think it was 10, if not 11. Jump rope was hard to get through today, but pushed through with a few stops. I was third in the ring today, so I had time to do hit the heavy bag for over 2 rounds and a couple rounds of shadow boxing, working on footwork again with the kicks. Todays pad work was 4 rounds, working a few more punch combinations, and not as many sweeps. I was surprised to see how long the session was this morning - two hours and 45 minutes! No wonder I was tired again. It’s not so bad, because that’s it for today. I dragged myself back to the hotel, showered, and
And a long way down
These are the steps where the gym is at. You can see why it’s so disappointing when the escalator isn’t working here after the workouts. am sitting in my blogging office, just enjoying the afternoon. I’m going to walk around and look for souvenirs for a bit, but it does feel good to know I don’t have to start packing up in less than and hour for an afternoon workout.
I decided on Terminal 21 to explore because in all the trips I’ve never been in it. Its a mall just down from the hotel. It’s pretty amazing. It’s themed around travel and each floor is marked like a departure destination from around the world. As the picture shows, there are escalators going to each floor, up and down, and some going multiple floors or all the way from top floor to the bottom. I ended up spending over 2 hours in there, partly because I couldn’t find the right escaroles to get out! There were lots of shops in there, typical of a mall, and it seemed like each floor had a food court. If there’s ever a yearning for American food, you can find just about anything there.
Because I had the time, I decided to go back to Bully’s for dinner. It’s about the farthest restaurant that I’m familiar with,
Traffic
I’ve seen it worse, but this is a Saturday afternoon, so it’s not the normal rush hour traffic. and there are a couple of cash exchanges near there also. Of course, as I’m on the way, the rain decides to make the journey much more fun. It’s just a light rain, but is funny how every shop along the way all of a sudden is an umbrella store. Luckily, none of the restaurants ever rush anyone out. I think its mostly the respectful culture, but probably a bit of good advertising to have people inside. I’ll wait it out a bit and finish this before I decide if I have to make a run for it. Seems like it’s not going to stop soon, so time to look for an opening and run. One more set of wet clothes!
