Day 1 – actually Day 2 because we over-nighted at Sydney Airport to break the flight up. The 10 hours flight to Bangkok was actually only 9 hours and uneventful. The Quantas fodder was actually pretty good and the crew quite attentive. We watched movies and read and neither of us really tried to sleep as it was our daytime and there didn’t seem much point. Bangkok airport is massive and the trip to customs must have been the best part of a kilometre, aided by a series of travelators. The customs process is very relaxed (apart from long queues at passport control) – only random bag checks and if you select ‘nothing to declare’ you go straight through. We had a problem connecting with Gareth as there are three road levels and though we were on the right one he couldn’t see us so getting things lost in translation we headed up a level only for him to track us on foot and take us down to where he and Mika had parked, virtually where we had originally been. We then got to experience Bangkok traffic! My God I could not live here. It is bumper-to-bumper everywhere so it was a long, long trip to our hotel. Mika and Gareth joined us in the room and we had take-aways about 9:30 at night before hitting the sack.
