Luckily, I booked my reservations to go snowboarding at Phoenix Park for Lunar weekend before I went on vacation. It guaranteed a spot especially rooming with the "Suwon chicks." A fun filled event, first off, I didn't know that I had Monday off because the lack of communication with my co-workers, it's either a language barrier or they tell you at the last minute just because. Secondly, the night before I expected to chill out and have a sleep over at Andrea's apartment, going to dinner and watching LOST, instead Gloria, Andrea and I went to dinner, had a glass of wine and started the night out for a random all nighter. We ended up going to NOW BAR and taking shots- the usual, playing pool, chatting and hitting the dance floor. NB (club) moved to Suwon Station closer to my apartment, which could be an addiction. Anyhow, we figured we should stay up till the bus departs. I actually took off and had a couple of hours of sleep, thankfully, Gloria called me to get my butt up. I missed the bus that her and Andrea went on, though not to worry, when there's a will, there's a way. I
jumped off the bus and took a taxi so I'd make it on time.
As you know I did. Us sloppy chicks are boarding the bus and giggling as everyone else is dead silent like the library. I figured, we were on the LOSER bus since they probably didn't go out and the looks we were getting. I didn't really worry about partying because I knew there would be time to rest since snowboarding was in the evening. Surprisingly, as Yeong Min, announced, "Skiing/snowboarding will begin as soon as we arrive." F&*% Oh, well, we sucked it up and hit the snow. It was Gloria's first time and she was a trooper with all the falls, stop and go and getting the hang of it as she was hungover. The next day, she zipped right by and she was no where to be found, she definitely improved and I assure you that she will do it again. I snowboarded with Morganne and she was teaching me how to carve, in the end, I did it finally. Too bad, she didn't get to see it as we would all split up at times. Some were beginners as others were going
on the black diamonds (advanced slopes).
Normally, after activities that you haven't done in awhile or have never done leaves you sore, excitedly we tracked down the spa. After calling the front desk and getting transfered three times to finally speak with someone that speaks English had told us where to go. Anxiously, we all changed into our swimsuits and bundled up to walk outside in the snow to the blue condiminium. 2 males and 6 females are ready to head in and unfortunately had to separate into our own locker rooms. It wasn't the usual jacuzzi. Turned out to be the traditional hot baths. We improvised and thought we could enjoy with just us girls and didn't need the beer afterall, which was prohibited. Undressed and ready to go, an employee stops us and with body language she tells us NO and points to our bathing suits. We all look at each other and didn't think anyone is worthy of seeing our beautiful goodies, no, just simply uncomfortable and embarrassing. I know we are all close, but don't want to be that close. Unsatisfied, we threw on our clothes and got a refund. Returning back to our rooms,
we decided to drink. The elevator had a sign to a "Conversation Room" so we thought we would check that out. Buzzed and ready to explore the largest hostel that I've ever stayed at, we found the Kitchen and not much of a conversation room, freezing, vacant and one thing in the frig, Kimchi.
We made our own conversation room, playing drinking games then moving it to the hall to avoid the "stinky feet party". Everyone piled up in one room without shoes and who knows if they showered after skiing or boarding. Poju is the potion and was the calling for everyone to move into our conversation room. I was cheering on Yu Jin to finish Poju, which is powerade and soju, he chugged it like a MAN or should I say KOREAN. He didn't want to at first because either he doesn't really drink or perhaps because his name is really Yeong Min, rules of encouragement, say the correct name.
The next day we had our fix and went to an indoor water park. The brochure looked like Raging Waters, but inside, exaggeratedly, it was nothing like it. All we wanted was to dip in the
hot tub and relax as we sip on beer. Contently, we did and broke the rules because the Korean lifeguards whistled and pointed to mean NO DRINKING. We stashed the beers in the fountain or behind our backs. One turns into two because the high temperture, I felt drunk after 4 which felt like 7 haha. Not to worry, we threw our cans away. The hot tub was located outdoors as the rest of the water park was in, it was ridiculously cold as we are idiots in bathing suits and snows on the ground. I thought I caught Pneumonia, the coldest I have ever felt, hence being wet too. There is always something that makes you forget and move on, the WAVE POOL. Buzzed and getting tossed around in the water was my highlight of the night.
Ending with more drinking games, clap clap 7 and clap clap 10....I sucked and always had a delay, everyone knew to call on SEVEN. The only time I got it right was walking out of the circle and not paying attention. Don't know how I did that, but I did, sometimes I'm better at things when it's complicated then when it's
simple.
We met many cool people from everywhere. It was nice to listen to the many accents: Canadian, Irish, British, New Zealand and South African. Though it was rough to understand as the night went on with the more drinking they do, the accents are more harsh with slag that I've never heard. Say what? Come again? Forget it. I justed couldn't hang anymore once I heard someone literally stealing a rooster and putting it his room mates bed. I knocked out.
The weekend wasn't over until it's really over. The Suwon chicks went to the movies to, of course, celebrate and watch "Valentine's Day,"
it was a trip full of love, it definitely was complete.
